I Cannot Believe What I Am Reading
A mother chooses to HAVE to keep her daughters locked up at night so that her paedophile husband can live with her. He is considered a danger to children and the police are monitoring the situation. Why would anyone choose to live like that? I only there is never a fire while those girls are locked in their bedrooms.

The article says that in the past he's committed child abuse. If so then its important to keep a close watch on him -- but paedophilia in itself is not a crime unless you act on it. On those circumstances he sort of has to be allowed to live a normal life, with precautions for the two girls in question.
It's a complex situation but once the woman 'chose' to fall in love with someone who was also a paedophile it's hard to see what else can happen. She herself is capable of looking after her daughters so you can't take them away from her just because of who her current husband is.
I'd say she's being utterly stupid -- but the social services seem to me to be doing as best they can in the circumstances.

Just a few months ago he was deemed to be a risk to children of the same age as the daughters. He must still be considered a risk if the family have to go to such lengths to allow him to stay in the house and he is still not allowed unsupervised contact with children.
What also bothers me is the neighbours clearly know that he is a paedophile and have been shouting abuse. This cannot be good for the children to live in such an atmosphere and it is possible that children at the girls' school also know.

This is appalling on so many levels, how on earth are the children going to be affected psychologically from living in this situation and having a mother who puts them in it. It cannot be defended however I believe Jim has hit the nail on the head, the illusion of love does make people do really crazy things. The mother is clearly deluded.
