/// Lewisham Homes, which manages houses for Labour-run Lewisham council in south London, has now threatened to “monitor” Ms Maple closely. ///

Reminiscent of the KGB..

AOG - my point entirely, if her tenancy forbids the display of posters then why wasn't that enough to ask for it to be removed?

Maybe lcg is correct and unusually they don't have that in their rules and they had to choose this daft route to tread - and make themselves look very silly in the process.

Ah now we are getting down to the nitty-gritty, I've dared to criticise Labour.

/// I wonder aog if you would have jumped so quickly had the council been
tory ?

Perhaps I could say the same, would you have been so defensive if the Council had been Tory led?
How many people will get a letter threatening eviction if they put a poster about the local fate or mad dram group in their window? I would suggest that this has happened simply because it is a political poster and not about a breach of tenancy due to a 'poster' in the window.
Oh for goodness sake it's wrong whether it's the Labour, Tory, UKIP, LibDem, Green, Yellow, Pink or Purple party. Is that clear?
My money is on the following:

Someone saw the poster, didn't recognise that the picture was not of some random black man, but the Tory party candidate for the ward, and assumed that it was a general statement of 'keep them out', and the council issued a warning based on that invalid assumption.

Very badly handled.
