High Turn-Out Today?

I've just been to vote and the lady at the polling station tells me there's been an extraordinarily large turn-out today. Does anyone know if the rest of the country is following suit?

I think it is gonna be high ( I will tip over 80% ) on the same grounds.

Some poor fellow had gone to the wrong polling station so I took him to the right one and actually thought as we walked along and approached it - blimey I think the station is where everyone is coming out from....

It's very busy here (or it certainly was about an hour ago). Our local community centre has two polling stations in it (one for the north side and town and the other for the south). They've had to open their overflow car park to cope with the volume of cars and the queues outside both doors are quite long, taking around 10 minutes to get inside.

I use a postal vote naomi, so can't say. I've encouraged all my female friends to use their hard earned votes..SO fingers crossed.

I don't know but we have been up this evening and in previous elections we've just wandered in and maybe seen about 6 other people. Tonight we had to queue outside the door there were so many, I remarked on it to OH.

When I went this morning, I was only one of three people in the hall and driving past at various times later I could see there wasn't much going on. However, a colleague of mine was late for work because he'd had to queue for so long. He said he'd never had to queue to vote before.

Naomi...I voted at just gone 07:00 this morning and I was number 14.

I have been working up in the northern reaches of the Brecon and Radnor constituency today, and all the Polling stations looked very busy.

I went at 3.10pm and there was just me !, probably a quiet spell due to the time of the day.

I postal voted too but a lot of people seem to be using the Facebook check in thing to say that they have voted, lots of people on my friends list have used it today. Nice to see it seems like a popular thing to use it and be proud of saying that you have voted.

We have had a portacabin placed on the green which is serving as our Polling Station and there has been a steady queue all day. We have postal votes but there were still a few people queueing when I passed there a couple of hours ago.

I said to Mr Boo as we we're on our way back from voting that I wondered if there would be a high turnout due (partly) to it being a nice day weather wise, He looked at me like I was nuts.

I'm used to that look :-(

Also, going by the link in my thread in News, it looks like there was a bit last minute uptake in the area mentioned there, of people signing up to vote. Unfortunately though, it seems that things have not gone to plan for some voters.

Turnout in 2010 was 65% and there had just been worldwide turmoil due to the financial crash. As nothing quite so calamitous has occurred recently then I doubt there is anything to drive a great deal more voters out. But the weather was fine today so that tends to increase turnout. I don't think turnout will be sufficiently greater than 64% 5 years ago.

BBC say...Voters queueing for 20 minutes in Gosforth, Newcastle. Also heard of queues at polling stations in Morpeth.

Leeds City Council is reportedly sending "emergency teams" to the Pudsey constituency to deal with problems caused by long queues at polling stations, BBC Look North says. Some voters are choosing to turn away rather than wait, it's added.
