I know you don't set much store by vote share TTT but no matter how the Tories try to spin it they have to accept that this result reflects the failure of Labour far more than the strength of the Tories. After five years of a coalition that has come under heavy criticism, managing to retain the same support as in 2010 is still a fine achievement, but the Tories have managed to win because their opponents have failed -- and, in particular, they have watched their partners in coalition be fed to the lions.
The resignations of all three of the main UK-wide party leaders shows how much of a loss this is for the opposition to David Cameron. He and the Tories can well smile and enjoy the moment. But, perhaps, they should thank their lucky stars that the SNP decided to stand for election only in Scotland...
