Chukka Ammuna is standing for Labour Leader. He comes from a wealthy family, went to private school and lives in a Million pound house owned by the family trust fund based in Jersey (tax avoidance?). I wonder if he would be derided as a "Toff"?

Is someone on minimum wage a suitable Conservative voter?
Well compared to Blair he really is not there yet, still give him time.

Nothing like a chamaign socialist.

Thinking about it, if you want to attract Middle England's votes and get into power Labour needs to show it is not a left wing Union run organization.

So this would be a good step in the right direction to achieve this.

If they elect another Red or someone toxic from the Blair era I think they will be consigned to the backbenches for 10 yrs + , new blood that clearly does not hate money could bring them back in 5 years.

I dont agree with what he says but Chukka is articulate and generally holds his own in interviews.

His problem will be that whoever takes over may well just be a caretaker and never PM and he may peak too soon.
At least when they lose the next election and he resigns the press will have their headline .chukka throws in towel
The way you describe him he sounds ideal as a Tory/New Labour leader. But that would not return the party's values and distinguish it from the other lot as a suitable alternative.

But in my experience you don't know what someone will do until put into a position. Most candidates for party leaders can be described as, "Who ???"
His name is Chuka.

Cameron's father stashed the family's money in a tax haven, so he would be in good company.

It is not anything new for rich people to particpate in the Labour Party. There are plenty of previous examples. Being wealthy should not bar him. However, He does seem to be the weakest of the known candidates. I find him unconvincing and hope they find someone better.

Well, when you consider that Labour abolished the 10p tax rate for low earners, the last government raised the personal allowance and this one plans to raise it further as well as giving 30 hours free childcare a week, and exempting those on the minimum wage from paying income tax altogether, yes. They'd be mad not to.

Thinking of phoning my bookie to get price on Tony Blair returning to be next leader .How should I phrase it and what odds would you imagine

" Hello BetFred, would you like to mug me? "

Weecalf,

Trust Gromit to spot a typo, he'll be calling me a liar soon. I would be extremely happy for Tony Blair or Cleggy to be leader!! Bring it on!
And he's named after part of a Polo match.
That's a double 'k', isn't it JJ?
yes

If I had said that some would have accused me of discriminant racism.
YMG at 08.10 says it all.

Labour must stop "banging on" about the "Posh Eton boys, the Bullingdon Club, and the electorate must stop this nonsense of needing someone who has "experience of life."

Tony Blair has showed how a Labour Government can be elected......and......re-elected, b ut Milliband ignored the move to centre right.

A female would signal another Labour defeat as they have no female to compare with the "Iron Lady"......so forget the women aspirates.

Chuka surely is the man, leader, to give them any hope at the next election.
CHUKA

But great news for all those future crossword compilers stuck for a new way of cluing CHUKKA
Prime Minister invites King in to see a bit of polo
:-)
