it seems to me that Answerbankers are either pro or anti police. Why do they find it difficult to look at each incident individually? This particular copper was out of order, even if the man had spat (and there is no evidence that he did) was there any need to barge past the child to get at him? It wasn't a life or death situation, why the hell did he draw his baton? And...

Like you say, you don't know much about it, but apparently he had spat at a police and shown "disobedience towards authority".

/// This prompted the release of a statement by the police that said that Magalhes had spat at a police and shown "disobedience towards authority". ///

His child being there has nothing to do with it, except of course that he shouldn't have behaved in such a way, while in charge of a child.

Is allegedly Spitting at the Police any way to behave in front of children?
There is always a back story to these pictures,

and as AOG ( bless ! ) would say: The Portuguese police have to do SOMETHING besides look for Maddy McCann's abductor

[ note cute child reference please ]
Are you questioning the fathers or Plods actions?
welll - the difference is, as you have clearly realised YMF that the police actions are on camera and the father's actions are alleged.

and dear dear there is a world of difference between action and words

And the child was so traumatised that he wet his pants, shocking overreaction by the police.
I watched it on the news. Seeing the police holding the child back while he was trying to protect his father was heart breaking. The punishment far outweighed the 'alleged' crime. According to the news here in Malta the grand father was also hit in the face with a baton.
