Does anyone remember the headlines from 40 years ago today ?
"Headingley : Snow stops play."
with a picture of the bails and stumps covered by half an inch of snow.
Thanks to global warming we're not likely to see that again soon, in spite of today's freezing winds.
We hope.

I remember deep snow in June in Buxton at the cricket
1975? I remember my friend and I tried to make a sledge in her father`s workshop (this was in the April school holidays). The snow thawed before we finished making it. That was followed by a lovely hot summer (as was the next summer) I don`t think this summer will be like that.
and 76 was the hottest summer ever
T'was a great summer.
Yes it was PP. Blissful memories. I have a theory that hot summers come in twos. The last two were hot so we have had it for this year.
.

76 Barry Humphries was doing a stint in the west end as Dame Edna

and one one-liner was ' the funniest sauna in London'
we all revised on rock hard rainless lawns
and people seriously wondered/discussed whether the pass rates would be reduced as people werent seriously studying
snow in June is an outlier, though: global warming or not it's seldom happened.
Yes! I was pregnant with 1st daughter in '75 and the Summer was very hot (believe me, I noticed!) but '76 was even hotter. Remember taking child to picnic at Bolton Abbey and keeping her in the shade in push-chair . It's blooming cold here now though, with a vicious, bitter wind and here am I trying to persuade Mr J2 that a move here was wise - friends are telling us how glorious it is in La Vienne! ;(

We haven't sold his house yet and I'm seriously beginning to wonder if there is any financially possible way we can keep it going and go there for the summers. I don't remember it as bad as this.
Would be nice to keep it going jourdain, to get a break from this unsettled weather here. I wish we had somewhere to escape to. It is supposed to be getting warmer this weekend. Today someone mentioned that Summer is missing this year, it will soon be autumn at this rate.
I agree with fiction-factory. Snow interupted the cricket at Buxton in 1975.
There was a piece on this during play in yesterday's test match. Derbyshire played Lancs at Buxton. Play on the second day (2nd June 1975) was abandoned because of snow. The previous day had been played in glorious sunshine apparently, so much so, that one of the Lancs team was unable to bat on the following day because of heatstroke.
Was that 40 years ago... seems like only yesterday.
Yes I remember it too. Going into work in my winter coat and leaving it on most of the day because there was no heat on and it was freezing in the office. I was telling my son about it a few months ago and he looked at me as though I was mad, so I was quite pleased when it came on the news and I could say - I told you so.
I remember the winter of 1947. The snow in our lane was so deep that vehicles to an American ack ack battery (still there!) were running in a tunnel dug under the snow.
