No, not really much of a surprise. Is there a point that you would like to debate?
No indeed. Sadly not unduly suprising.
This tweet from Gorgeous George is not suprising and sums up the measure of a man who could never be a politician in the same league as Charles Kennedy also.

I apologise for going off topic.
Not a surprise. I hope he's at peace and his family cope.
why is it that my word checker will never allow me to spell suprising correctly ?
Aaww bless. Poor guy.
I am so so saddened but not surprised...dear dear Charlie..may you be at peace...
Toxicology reports take about 3 weeks to produce.
Careful Mikey,
His fan club are very touchy. I had a post removed the other day for stating his lifestyle probably contributed to his early death. And so it seems it has.
Poor man.

Welcome to the club But I am not resposible for removing other ABers posts whereas..... annoying isn't it. :-)
No I wasn't.

I said he was an alcoholic, smoker and overweight and an early death was therefore not a great surprise. It was an honest accessment, which did not break any of this sites rules.
@Gromit. I remember that.....I think your timing was a bit dodgy then.

I meant no disrespect to Kennedy, but this is now public knowledge.

As a person who is known to enjoy a drink myself, there for the grace of God go I !

A sad end to a brilliant political career...very sad indeed.
I have never supported the LibDems and know relatively little about Mr Kennedy, but I feel very sad that the news of his passing, because at the heart of this - it was preventable. I feel gutted for his loved ones...I assume it must've been a helpless situation for them.
I am surprised it is necessary to have a purist love in on this but after the still incomplete stream of vitriol following the death of TGL I suppose I should not be surprised. I am no fan of the man but I would not have started it's an "all his own fault" thread. A little dissapointed me old china.

^^^^^ is that directed at me TTT ?

I was merely reporting the latest news in this affair, and most certainly not saying that its all his own fault, even though it now appears to be a major factor in his early death. He was a nice chap, who appeared to have no real enemies, and I feel very sorry for his friends and family. I understand that he had a young son, although I am unsure how old. Its rotten for a lad to lose his father at an early age.
.

Yeah I was surprised he was a bit young to drink himself to death

terrible death - exsanguination ( bleeding to death internally )
either oesophagus ( gullet ) or duodenum ( stomach )

and I think he must have been alone

Dorothy Parker ( please please I dont need a thousand 'Who'?s )
said of her drinker husband - I did fourteen rounds with the bottle and lost everyone

I love the picture of Charles Kennedy. Before the photographer arrived he was probably thinking ...

"I hope they don't do that thing where they ask me to hold a pen as if I'm writing something (even though its a sheet of type), and look into the middle distance as if I'm contemplating something complex and important".

(ding dong)

"Hello, Mr Kennedy"

"Hello"

"Okay, we've got a good idea for the photo. How about you pick up a pen, as if you're writing something, and look into the middle ..."

Etc.
Of course he wasn't too young to drink himself to death.
