Is It Fair For Schools To Organise Trips Abroad?

I would have thought this is an extreme example which is very unfair to those who are less well off. Is any school trip abroad whose cost may run into hundreds of pounds fair to those who cant afford to go? Why cant they visit places in the UK?

I went to PGL but in the UK. Loved it. I can't remember how much these school trips cost at the time.

I expect they seemed extortionate even then :(

Boy #1 is going on a PGL water sports thing in the UK and that's £100.

I don't think they pay much themselves on these 'team' trips.
Around here they have all kinds of fundraising exercises( like crushing OAP's groceries in Asda) so they go free(or keep the costs down)

My daughter went on the school skiing trips to the Dolomites for three years running. We managed to save the money (average £350) for her to go, it was the chance we'd never had at her age and we'd still never been abroad at that time. She loved it, came home with unopened soap and toothpaste but she has happy memories of the skiing and her school friends, she still keeps in touch with several.

But there is no need for these holidays to be so expensive. If they were in the UK or Northern Europe more kids could afford to go, so more would have the great memories we're all talking about. Why leave out so many children, or make their parents struggle to enable them to be part of it?
