More lightheartedly - I am trying to remember my reading of the 'Billy Bunter' series when I was very small (U.10) If I recall correctly, Mr. Quelch was asking for a translation of a Latin phrase from either Virgil or Horace (sorry, not sure, think Horace is the favourite).
Bunter translated as 'Don't trust the Greeks when bringing gifts'. Mr. Quelch squashed him and translated this as 'I fear the Greeks, even when bringing gifts'.
I've probably got bits wrong (it was 60 years ago!), but I think the point will come over!
