If this is true, and if he is not prosecuted, it will set a precedent for an escape clause for anyone claiming (or feigning) dementia.
More here YMB from the Simon Danczuk, who has been like a terrier on this issue. I agree with him. Just because Janner is not able to stand trial himself, it should be a problem for some kind of court proceedings to take place, such as "a fitness to plead"

I understand that he may still be on trial, as the original decision by the DPP Alison Saunders is being challenged. Lets hope its quickly, before another paedophile dies and escapes justice. We have had far too many of those for my liking.

I agree Mickey.

It's just, as you know, I do like to see justice correctly administered in a Court of Law and "innocent until proven Guilty in a Court" upheld.

Lets hope Mr Danczuk makes progress, I suspect this may go a lot deeper and involve many - from all sides of the house and I would like to see it uncovered.
Then we have a rare moment of agreement YMB ! We should do this more often !

The difficulty with all this is that the "Establishment" is still beavering away in the background. If the allegations about happened at the Elm Guest House are even partially true, the abuse was perpetrated by people from all walks of life, most of them very high up indeed.....show business, politics, the Judiciary, Police and the Church, and you can't get more high up than that !

I hope Danczuk continues his crusade. I have recommended his book on Cyril Smith before but I will repeat that it makes extremely interesting reading.
If it is true .... so let us stop hehaving as tho everything we hear in Parliament is true

Did it happen and is he guilty are two different questions

( and may be disjoint - that is no it didnt happen but he was found guilty or yes it did happen and not he was found not guilty )

so why dont we say
"sorry it did happen to you - we are sorry and will do better next time"

and we dont say that because money is involved in the end of it all

// I understand that he may still be on trial, as the original decision by the DPP Alison Saunders is being challenged.//

then you dont understand

There is a separate decision process for an allegation North of the border.
Different legal system, different mandarin deciding about what and who is important

and the challenge to Allison Saunders ( DPP ) is the right of the victim to have the decision not to prosecute reviewed. I dont think the mandarin who gave that avenue to the victim was thinking of 'challenge' but "more giving the victim a chance to whine some more" ( my quotes)

Allisons great contribution to British Justice is to bring more rape allegations to court. When the conviction rate promptly went down which I pointed out to her was an inevitable effect of the policy - she said
'Oh I know I will make it easier to convict'.
