I wonder why a charity needs government money? Especially a child's charity such as this, surely there are already central and local government departments to take care of such issues, if charity money is needed to provide certain extras then all to the good.

The NSPCC gets a huge dollop of Government cash.
I image the Government does this because if the work wasn't done by charities, and the Government had to take over that function, it would cost a hell of a lot more.
