Onlookers applauded when the baby was returned to dry land and handed to her relieved mother.

After Melda was offered a drink of water, the family left the beach

If it had been here people would be demanding she was taken into care.

The report I read yesterday said the parents had fallen asleep sunbathing!!

It's completely shocking regardless...
This tiny baby was in a inflatable, that drifted 1 kilometer out to sea !

Shocking story. What kind of parent "loses" a ten month old baby ?
//What kind of parent "loses" a ten month old baby ? //

a british prime minister?
We may have heard the last of this episode, but i bet that Turkish family haven't, there will certainly be local repercussions.
What was the name of the politician who left a child in a pub? Can anyone remember?
It's wrong to say they forgot about her, but crazy of the parents to leave a baby floating on her own in an inflatable.
Thankfully, no harm came to her and I'm sure they won't be so stupid again.
Seriously
You need an adverb not an adjective
We don't take grammar seriously enough.

A very lucky child in a country with standards very diffeent to the UK.
That poor little baby must heve got horribly burnt. Absolutely stupid!

I did wonder if anyone would pick up on the 'seriuos/seriously but I thought....nah, is anybody really that sad.

In the building game you hardly ever think 'mmmm do I need an adverb or an adjective'

Absolutely shocking story that beggars belief.
There should be a question mark at the end of your first sentence. :-)

You have ruined my trap, Zacs :0/
// The Ilgin family had placed the child in the flotation device and were apparently settling in on the beach when they realised she was not where they left her.

Melda Ilgin was seated in an inflatable child's toy when strong winds caused her to drift away from the shore.

Her parents and others watching on the beach reacted with horror as the yellow inflatable was carried further and further out to sea with the child still sitting atop it. //

Sounds more like a freak accident than neglect. They momentarily looked away and she was gone. Fortunately we have an happy ending.

Children have got swept out to see here in dingys and inflatables. We do not take them into care and prosecute the parents. As in the Turkish case, there is relief and thanks that the incident did not have a tragic end.

So in answer to the question, no we do jot takes things too seriously, and to the i plied question, no the Turkish authorities do not take it too lightly either.
This from a few weeks ago...
// AN eight-year-old boy has been saved from a inflatable boat adrift heading for open sea after an offshore breeze carried him away from his father.

Horton and Port Eynon lifeboat crew was launched at 5pm yesterday after a report of a boat in difficulty in Oxwich Bay, Gower. //
I would think that a baby drifting helpless out to sea, would be taken seriously by normal people, regardless from what country they came from.

Yeah, ok.
//Sounds more like a freak accident than neglect.
Yeah, ok. //

You don't think it was an accident? What are you insinuating, that the family launched the child deliberately? Why would they do that?
Gromit...I am not sure anybody is suggesting that this act was deliberate.

Its almost certainly an accident, but an entirely avoidable accident, as it would seem to have been caused by the parents carelessness.
sandy..seem to recall it was Tony Bair
///Thankfully, no harm came to her and I'm sure they won't be so stupid again.///
don't hold your breath
I wonder if AB should have a separate section on Perfect Parenting. People could use it to point to the manifest defects of Turks, McCanns etc.
