You know........I do believe that the Labour Party could elect Jeremy Corbin as their leader, whereas what they really need is a Tony Blair or dare i say it ..a Margaret Thatcher.
whereas what they really need is a Tony Blair

Like an hole in the head, sqad.

It's one farce after the other with the Labours carry on comedy show.
Melvyn Bragg

'Miliband failed us, his Labour supporters. And Labour will now, because of him, be in a disaster zone for a long time. There is no chance of us winning the next election if the party carries on as it has been.'

Lord Bragg's also savaged the party's performance in Scotland – where it lost 40 of its 41 MPs to the SNP. He said: 'You might have regarded it as a freak result but it was not, as Labour was rotten to the core in Scotland and took its supporters for granted

Its democracy in action TTT !

Sqad is right here. We have all forgotten how Blair won three consecutive elections for Labour, and some would argue that he could have won a fourth if he had not stood aside for Gordon Brown.

Maggie 3 wins
Dave 2 wins + who knows
The last thing we need is a Labour Government taking us to the brink of National Bankruptcy again, give a working man (someone else's) money and he loses all self control, every time!
mikey, Blair doesn't carry much respect these days though.
Tony...I am aware of that but he has been conveniently forgotten by our right-wingers on here. The Tory Party remained out of power for 13 years, mainly due to Blair efforts. They went through 4 leaders before they managed to get one that people were prepared to vote for.

What the Labour part needs now is somebody with charisma, which Bair had in spades. But didn't someone once say that all political careers end in failure ?....Enoch Powell if I recall correctly.

Tony Blair only ever had the welfare of one person in mind, and that was Toy Blair, he was a Snake Oil Salesman and you guys fell for it!

yes Blair did the business by pretty well impersonating the Tories. What Labour supporters seem unable to grasp is that the public vote either Tory or tory look alike. Blair grasped it and was sucessful. The public do not want socialism, that's the point. Mikey do you think you'll see another Labour govenement within 20 years say?
I understand where your coming from, mikey. But in my case it didn't take to long to realize that Tony Blair was in charge of a party that I didn't recognize anymore.

\\\\\But in my case it didn't take to long to realize that Tony Blair was in charge of a party that I didn't recognize anymore.\\\

But I bet, just a suspicion, that you still voted Labour...;-)
LOL, maybe sqad.
tony..;-)
TTT...yes I do !

I heard all this in 1979, and yet 18 years later, Labour won the biggest landslide victory that they had ever done before, even in 1945. In 1997, he Tories were reduced to just 165 seats, against Labour's 418. In contrast, a few weeks ago, Labour lost with 232, against the Tories 331. So Labour are now in a much better position than the Tories were in 1997. So yes, of course they can win again and much sooner than 20 years !

I am not sure about the "impersonating the Tories" bit though.

Blair brought in radical policies like the Minimum Wage and devolution for Scotland and Wales. I don't remember the Tories under your BL, or the Major pillock that succeeded her, having any enthusiasm for those plans.

If they had of been "Tory" plans, surely they would have been brought in during 1979-1997 ?

Tony...I can understand your reticence about Labour but next week we will see the first Tory Budget for many years, and enough has been leaked to indicate that it will be injurious to ordinary working people, especially if he makes cuts to WTCs. He has plans to make wealthier people even potentially more wealthy, if the IHT changes come about.
Question Author
yes mikey but in order to do all that Blair had to change into the Tories. Labour has turned back again. Leaving aside your own opinions do you not accept that the country does not want "old" Labour?

/// Blair brought in radical policies like the Minimum Wage and devolution for Scotland and Wales///

2 of the 3 stupidest ideas they had. And, by God, there were plenty to choose from.
