The trouble is since WW2 all UK governments having been giving away more and more money in benefits.

We have now reached the stage where a high percentage of the UK population gets some sort of benefit or other, be it child benefit, pension, working tax credit, child tax credit, housing benefit etc.

But as a country we are massively in debt, have an aging population, and we cant keep giving money away the way we do.

There is a woman on the front of my local paper this morning. Single mother with 8 kids complaining she wont be able to live on £20,000 a year benefits.

But it has to stop sometime, or we will finish up like Greece.

Trouble is some socialists and those in the socialist workers party and SNP feel that as a country we should just keep giving more and more money away to more and more people until we are broke.

But we need to EARN the money first, so need to promote private business who sell things and pay taxes.

Without those businesses we will soon go broke, but all we ever hear from the left wing is we need to keep paying out more and more benefits.

But many people in this country are sick to death of paying their taxes and seen it given away in benefits which is why they voted Tory in the last election.

But of course the "left" are bad losers who choose to have strikes on the day of the budget and wreck thousands of peoples lives, just because they lost the election.

They wont be happy till we are as broke as Greece.
I heard on the radio today from a haulage company who employed 18 people. He said he already pays around the targeted £9 hour but most of the staff only want to work 3 days so that they can top up with tax credits. Is this fair to the tax payer?

13 million families are an awful lot of people VHG.

Do you think it likely that the adults in those 13 million families can be guaranteed to vote Tory in 2020 ?
So , are all the people who voted for strike action , lefties ?
13 million families on benefits out of a total of 18 million families in the country is an awful lot of people being supported by the state. No surprise the system needs sorting out.
The Trade Unions can hardly be described as right wing. They dictate to the workers in the union and pull the strings of the Left Wing Labour party so the answer to your question is most likely Yes.
//Do you think it likely that the adults in those 13 million families can be guaranteed to vote Tory at the next election//

No but some might just get a better job/start working full time like the rest of us.

Retrocop...I am not sure what strike Bazile is referring to, although I suspect he means the current Tube strike ( ? )

Union members vote for strike action by a secret ballot, rather like you voted in May. Previous Tory governments saw that this change in strike ballots happened and I fully concur with that legislation. So its all above board.
nonesense - i and lots of my colleagues belong to a trade union .
We don't always follow what the union recomends - we decide for ourselves what we want to do , based on the issue .

Some of us have got left leaning views - some of us have got right leaning views
Unless the 13 million are particularly thick they'll know that Brown only introduced tax credits to make more people reliant on and beholden to the state. Why would any person want to work all week and then go cap in hand to the state to be able to live.
What I can't figure out is why some people on the left seem so happy to boost the profits of global corporations who pay minimal wages.

I seem to recall retro, that you are an ex-Policeman and the Police Federation can hardly be defined as left wing, now can it ! And I also recall that the PF is not affiliated to the TUC !
Well fools like mikey can keep on paying to support these people and then he can moan all day long about how high his taxes are to pay for it...more bitter !?
just think, if Labour and the SW2 had won we'd be having their first budget, what do you think that would have contained mikey?
Question Author
TTT ...alas my balls are not made of crystal !
Question Author
TTT...what is the SW2 please ?
The Police Federation is not a union and you might recall that the police are forbidden to go on strike. The PF is a paper toothed tiger and does not bring the country to it's knees and inconvenience people who are actually attempting to do an honest days work.
Swaggeriing Sweaties
// Well fools like mikey can keep on paying to support these people //

As Svejk points out, they're actually paying to supplement the profits of the companies that pay low wages, which is even more foolish for a lefty.

Raising the minmum wage puts the responsibility for paying salaries back with the employer rather than the taxpayer.

Flipping heck TTT...my little book of TTT'isms is growing by the day !

TTFN !
Mikey doesn't have to worry about tax, baz. He's on the minimum wage. (so he assured me)
