what a b**s up , there should be manslaughter charges brought against the organisers when you read what a shambles it was, they even ran out of water at checkpoints, helicopters which they had should have carried water supplies to the checkpoints, it make my blood boil !!!

Not the most tasteful expression you could have used under the circumstances.

Maybe not, Gromit. But I certainly understand what he means.

// She said: "They displayed no responsibility, no accountability and no humility for their role in creating the culture which led to the events of the 13 July, 2013.

"Even an ounce of this would have gone such a long way in acknowledging the vast catalogue of errors which were so clearly made.

"James would have been so hugely disappointed by the behaviour of an organisation which he had fought for and to which he ultimately lost his life.

"The evidence at this inquest has revealed a list of countless and quite honestly embarrassing failings, which anyone with pride in our armed forces would find to be shocking and unacceptable." //

This case makes me so sad. These lads trusting those above them in authority. Total waste of life. Their poor families are left with the memory of how they died.

The Army cocked up big time here. To lose 3 men in one day is completely inexcusable. Wasocks.
Wow, how did that lady hold it together! She delivered a very critical & damning report against the MOD. Let's hope there's massive changes now. Too late for those men though.
Lessons have been learned!

Kick them harder next time and make sure they get up!

They're not known as the ignorant army for nothing!
// Must be awful to try and contact the risk assessment brigade in the Great Sand Sea or the Atlas mnts //

yah but the pt of the army or special ops is that they kill the enemy and not each other isnt it?
// Lessons have been learned! //

my heart sank when I heard that when I heard that from the Brass....

like - lesson 1 - say you werent there when the shot hits the fan
or lesson 2 - keep mum and close ranks and get a Very Large Pension
PP
As a former union rep I am surprised you haven't screamed for the head of their union as well as the top brass.Where Was the barrack room lawyer pp? Where Was plan B when plan A went t..ts up.yes training exercise where lots of tragic accidents occur. All very sad and tragic. Mountain and Artic warfare troops have lost professional fully trained troops in cliff abseiling exercises.Risks are nature of the beast In the military and exercises will always go sometimes wrong and yes lessons Will always have to be learnt includIng thinking on your feet to minimise tragedies like this.
I salute the way retro you have rationalised three completely avoidable deaths
in this case I would say with certainty:

lessons havent been learnt nor are likely to be

top brass shrugs shoulders and wobbles off to collect Very Large Pension
wrings hands and says it has always happened like this and so always will

Well said PP...these deaths were entirely preventable. The Army behaved arrogantly and stupidly...end of story.
Off subject but for these three guys to push themselves to as far as they could possibly go is incredible physical & mental determination.
