// You are quite a selfish being aren't you? //
I don’t think so, but as with chaptazbru, I seem to have struck a nerve here which has resulted in some unnecessary strength of rebuttal, but that’s fine, it’s all in the spirit of the AB.
//What sort of mind set sells guns to civilians for a living? It's only a short step from arming anyone and everyone to deciding to be a religious bigot on top - both of them required fractured thinking from the outset.
As I often quote - Ben Elton said that sorting gun ownership is extremely simple - you ask an individual if they would like to own a gun, and if they say yes, they are automatically banned from ever owning a gun! //
I am 65. I started shooting with my friends at 16yrs.We met yesterday at Bisley. We were practising for a sporting National shooting competition in September. In 49 years none of us has slain any human or animal. You think we should not have access to a weapon that is only used at firing at a large piece of paper.Something we enjoy and does not interfere with others enjoyment. //
Without wishing to appear pedantic, I did quote Mr Elton in regard to owning a gun – as in keeping on in the home, not specifically target shooting at a gun club, and I have no problem at all with target shooting, since you ask. I think Mr Elton's observation was witty and it made me smile - it's not an edict for the world to follow, from him, and especially not from me.
// You are in the music business. Lets ban people enjoying music and close down outlets for CD's. //
No, I’m not in the music business, I write about music and musicians which is not quite the same thing – but I fail to see what that would make a sound analogy in terms of banning music and access to CD’s, I am unaware of anyone being killed by music, or indeed by a CD.
//Who are you and your mate Elton to say that we should not be allowed to enjoy a lifetime sport that causes no harm to anyone or animal? //
I am not a mate of Mr Elton, but I assume he was merely making a point, I found it witty, and quoted it, also to make a point, which is what debating on the AB is all about.
// Remember. All the shootings are carried out by the bad guys in the UK. The good guys had their handguns withdrawn.//
I think you’ll find that all shootings are carried out by bad guys everywhere in the world, not just the UK – being a bad guy is something of a pre-requisite to wanting to shoot someone, I am sure you would agree.
// We do not even have an Olympic Pistol team because of people with the same mindset as you and Elton. //
I can hardly be held responsible for the absence of an Olympic Pistol Team – that decision is made by people other than me, and I am not party to their reasons, and I have no input into that decision.
//Shooters are not all psychopaths in the UK and your garbage is not appreciated by law abiding citizens who enjoy their sport. We are not shooting foxes or wild life for Christ's sake. //
I did not suggest that they were, and I simply stated my opinion, it is not garbage simply because you hold a different view. If my opinion is not appreciated, and there is no reason why it has to be, then anyone is very welcome to sign on to the AB and debate it with me.
As I said to chaptazbru, I was merely seeking clarification, it seems I have touched a nerve.

In Bradford (where else) there was a piece of rough stony ground that used to be a hand car wash. Now a parade of shops have been built, the banner announces that it is Asian shopping for Asian people sari shops and a cafe. If we had announced that at Asda or Tescos the fatwas would have been flying. Actually it looks just like downtown Bangladesh.

But does it say something like 'For Asians only - no whites allowed'?
If not, then it is merely targeting its natural customer base - I can't see anything wrong with that.

andy-hughes as I said the banner actually does say 'Purpose built Asian shops for Asian people'. Nothing about colour - but Race, I am not Asian. How many white people are Asian???? unless an albino Chinese/Mongolian/Pakistani/Indian? Do you get my drift or are you going to use up another whole load more space cutting and pasting my post? If we built a shopping centre and put up a banner to say Purpose built English shops for English people they would have something to say, and no doubt be in there with burqas flying just for the hell of it.

So I have 3 high powered rifles locked safely and securely in my home.(checked annually by the authorising authority). They are not held at my gun club. What is your problem? I could go berserk and run wild with one in Safeways. I could also be a member of my local cricket club and run berserk through Safeways with a cricket bat and cause fatal injury. I am licensed and heavily vetted to hold a Firearms certificate in this country. Cricketers and Baseball players are not but equally potential killers whether Muslim or Not.

I am really not sure why you are veering so far off the point - we have gone from banning CD's to crazed cricket club members!
My point is simple - the method of selling guns in the U.S. - which is what the original point is about - and not specifically about responsible gun ownership, which is a separate issue - enables a culture to amass millions of guns, with attendent loss of life.
As President Obama said on the radio this morning - the number of deaths from terrorism in the US since 911 is less that one hundred, the number of deaths from firearms is tens of thousands.
Huffily pointing out that you are a responsible gun owner in the UK does nothing to negate the gun shop system in America, and I maintain my point - wanting to run a business where guns are sold over the counter to any individual with the money is a recipe for gun crime and death, and once again in the headlines today, my point appears to be proven.
Would I ban guns tomorrow? Yes I would, for the greater good of the planet.
Then again I would also ban alcohol - but these are just my opinions, I don't own the world, I don't have any influence, I simply express my views - as do you - the difference between us is, you seem to feel threatened and angered by my view, I do not feel the same about yours.

But we have no need to say 'purpose built for English people', because we are the majority.
In any culture, a minority will gravitate towards its own customs and language, be that living areas or socialising, or shopping - and I am sure that any country that has a large English community - like Spain - may well do the same.
I fail to see any offence or threat in this - I don't understand why you seem to.
