Shades of the Elgin Marbles here, perhaps?

Quite a find though.

It's probably a knock-off Korean Koran

They won't ask for them back.

They will say that the infidels are insulting Islam by touching a holy Islamic relic, and we must all be killed, or banned from smoking on the beach, or some such.
Some mistake surely. "The Saudis" are mere striplings compared to the age of this text
Think this was mentioned in R&S earlier, amazing discovery after all this time.

Well that's the Cadbury family under a fatwa for nicking it, or arranging to have it nicked!
It's probably a knock-off Korean Koran
We should send it over to isis and let them have the bother. Watch how that row over the Koran pans out.
They might offer to buy it back.
Oh another thing jogger. That was a bit too far! Ban smoking on the beach?
What about a barbeque is that to be abolished as well?

Don't think the Muslims have banned BBQs, I used to sell portable ones to them that worked with lava and butane gas.....when you finished your picnic you could literally 'wash your rocks.'
Yes sandy, make em buy it back. Free oil for the next 50 yrs for the U.K. and a camel each. Watch the traffic Taliban try to put a parking ticket on one of those cantankerous brutes.
Send it back and let them fight each other for it
The worst possible scenario is that the extremist muslim terrorists, might kidnap a few important people and then ransom them for the book.
Give the ruddy thing back, otherwise they might come and get it !
Just what the world needs though, more sky dweller fantasy to lie about the place causing misery.
If a museum in the Moslem world asked for them i am sure the request would be looked on favourably.
Just as the Elgin Marbles, so it is claimed, would be returned to Greece if a Greek museum but in a proper request for them, which none ever has.
Ah, well, that's that then. I was told by a Muslim activist in (I think it was c.1988) that they intended to make the North of England the centre of Islam in the Western World (yes, I did report this aspiration, nothing happened, surprise). Now the most probably holiest of the Koran's is around we may as well learn the words! That was the worst p.o.v. - on the historical side, I can be nothing but pleased at the discovery of an ancient fragment. I hope it may contain differences to deter the rabid Islamists.
It was found in Iraq in the 1920s. The records of Islam go back further in Iraq than in Saudi.
The same one EDDIE? Not being funny, was there another version found then and have the verses and translations been incorporated into the modern Koran? Don't expect you to know it all, does anyone?
Yes read the link that , those Koran fragments have been dated to just 10 years after the date that Muhammad is supposed to have written down the Koran. That makes it the earliest yet found. There are dozens of translations and versions of the Koran it was not translated into English until the 1780s and that version was a very poor translation.
