David Frost's son, aged 31, died whilst out jogging. What a tragedy, so young. Condolences to the family. RIP.

Condolences go without saying. He is the latest in a (short) line of super-fit people who have died suddenly. The one that hit me hardest was a friend of 10 years, ran marathons with no problem. He did a 2 mile jog at lunchtime at work, got back, went into the shower ----- that was it. My heart and thoughts really do go out to the family.

It's so sad isn't it jourdain? I hate to hear of anyone dying so young, the Frost family must be absolutely devastated, especially after losing their dad only a couple of years ago.
Without wishing to sound mean, it is bad enough that people mourn celebs that they have never met and do not know. Are we now expected to do the same when the children of the celebrities die.
I can understand a bit of empathy toward Nick Cave who is still alive, who lost his son tragically. You feel for the man and his loss, even though you had no idea he had a son until he was killed.
But when the celeb is dead, in the case of Frost, then I do not really feel any grief. It is someone I did not know existed has gone. I do not know his family or friends, so it affects me no more than a news item where people had died in an earthquake of bomb.
We all see people we care about die throught our lifetimes and it is usually not a nice period. So I will not be joining in any faux mourning.

Not if you don't want to, others might though.
Ask not for whom the bell tolls
I must admit I felt the same as Gromit when I read this. Chose not to say anything. Each to their own, I suppose.
Tend to agree with Gromit over this, I can understand the sadness at the passing of a famous icon film star, Stage Actor etc, that is the end of an era, and we will not again see the like of them again, or of course when the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh pass away.

I think most of us can empathise with that, but of course on this I don't know if Gromit will agree with me.
But we do comment very often on here about people we never meet who have died in tragic circumstances and some other deceased who would claim 'deserved' it!!
I really do empathise with the comments made by Gromit and sometimes struggle to understand the postings of many ABers particularly the ultimate comment RIP.

Is there any other way to remain dead?
"Is there any other way to remain dead?"
Yes they can come back and haunt you
I empathise with Gromit also. I didn't know this man from Adam so to express condolences to him rather than Mrs Miggins' son who died and lives in Aylesbury or somewhere seems rather odd.
Prudie.......they wouldn't dare ;-)

It's called respect, something that is increasingly lacking in modern day Britain.
Sqad, isn't RIP an expression of hope made by Christians that the deceased will spend an untroubled eternity and not be forever rotating on a rotisserie?
David Frost was a talented man who produced some good work in his career. Though we did mot know the man, his death was a time to show our appreciation of the programmes we liked and our memories of them.

I cannot do that with Miles. I do not know if he was talented or not. I have no memories of him because I didn't know he existed.
AOG...it "may" be, but i would suspect that in the majority of cases it is a matter of "habit" with respect lagging some way behind.
Incidentally Miles Frost died last Sunday.
AOG, do you value politeness also. If, as I suspect you do, you may wish to thank the people who offered advice on your lightbulb thread as it was sadly lacking.
Just worked out why Miles frost has been given so many column inches in the newspapers. He was not a mere mortal, he was aristocracy.

His Grandfather was the 17th Duke of Norfolk. His mother is Lady Carina Mary Gabrielle Fitzalan-Howard . Goes some way to explaining why so much fuss has been made of someone relatively unknown by most of us.
Whether the person is known to you personally or not, to learn of anyone dying so young is a tragedy and that I believe is all the OP is saying.
I didn't, for that matter, know anyone on the German Wings flight who died in the Alpine crash, but I feel very sorry for their families and friends.
