How cool is this guy ...

Every year, he takes part in the Pride Parade ... on his mobility scooter !!
He carries a banner saying " I'm the oldest gay in the village".
In the past, he has been given a criminal conviction for being gay. This weekend, he married his BF, to coincide with Pride Weekend.
That's the way to go when you're in your 90s!

AOG...you quite clearly disapprove of Mr Montague and his marriage, hence your remark about "broadcasting" It is your right to disapprove of course.
You have accused gays of having an "agenda" Well, you are 100% correct on that point. Their agenda is the same agenda that non-whites, and the disabled have and its called equality. Due to enlightened legislation passed over recent years, gay now enjoy equality and that is what they wanted...just equality under the law.

/// "44 percent of straight men report having anal sex at least once in their lives, and 36 percent of straight women do too." ///
That either means that 8% of straight men have had homosexual sex, or 8% of women won't admit to it. //
I think it means that 56% of straight men, and 64% or straight women.

Svejk - //So basically they can, and do, throw a 'hissy fit' if not accepted as equal/normal. And then they have a parade to celebrate being different to everyone else. It's all rather tiresome, imo. //
Aside from the fact that your 'So ... ' confirms my often-advised point that starting a response in that way means you are either going to miss the point you are answering, or completely fabricate something that has not been said (the first in this case!) -
I think any minority enjoys a chance to celebrate its differences - that is human nature.
The point about 'throwing a hissy fit ...' as you so delicately put it - is about protesting to obtain and maintain basic rights in a civilised society that the majority take for granted because they have them from birth.
The point about celebrating difference is about enjoying being different, and being proud of it - as I explained in my previous response to you on this very issue.
Being different can, and should be celebrated - Gay Pride.
Being entitled to be treated the same as everyone else has to be fought for - Gay Rights.
I hope that underlines the difference between the two.

/// But to get back to JJ's original post...would you really take away the obvious joy that this chap feels at being married....aren't you even a tiny bit glad for
him ? ///
Since I do not know him I couldn't really care, except to say I like to see people in love, and making a firm and bonding commitment to each other.
But this is not this is about, it is the fact that he carries a banner declaring that he is the oldest gay in the village. (see joggerjayne's headline)

Here's the thing - we have countless people up and down the country denouncing homosexuality in their mosques, churches and synagogues every week.
Is it not right that gay people can say, "Actually, here's our opinion"?
Let's say there were no gay pride marches - wouldn't that tip the balance in favour of those who want to spread anti-gay feelings from their pulpits?
Don't you think it's good that we have a bit of balance?
And at the end of the day - who bemoans the excuse for a street party?
