It states that the girl has come to terms with being a mistake, charming being a product of such devoted parents, who are now suing the hospital that carried out the bodged abortion for £700,000 for the girl's maintenance.

It seems to go against any of the basic notions of love and affection that children need and deserve by right.
The parents seem keen to enforce what their perceive as their legal rights to money, but involve their child in the situation by making it abundantly clear to her that she has been, and remains a psychological and financial burden to them.
If any parents waited until they could 'afford' children, a huge number of them - ours included! - would not be here.
I think these parents have and are behaving shamefully by trying to shift their parental responsibilities onto the state, and I hope their case fails, as it deserves to, legally, and certainly morally.

of course the child support them in what they are trying to do - she will get a holiday/car/whatever out of it won't she! For 700k i would be willing to hear my parents were going tom tell the world they considered me a financial/emotional burden (cause let's face it, thats what children are aren't they?)

Depends.
Personally, I have always found, and still find today, that my children are an emotional gift, I would not miss a single minute of the time I have had with them or not spend a single penny of the money I have used to make them as comfortable and secure as I can.
If you feel that children are a 'burden', there is a very simply solution ...

I am slightly confused here....sure if the abortion was not complete i.e it had failed, then there would have been signs of the pregnancy progressing.
In that case they would have returned to the Obstetrician for repeat evacuation of the uterus and if they didn't, then one would presume that they were happy to continue with the pregnancy and hence have no case in Law.

A-H...;-)
I don't know the facts here........but if i were the parents, i would take the view that the medical authorities had "botched" a straightforward surgical procedure that had resulted in "hardship" to the recipient and that i would sue them on the basis of negligence.
That is if we knew the full facts here.
As far as letting the child know that she was unwanted and the damage to her that may have transpired...... I think is emotional thinking which has no scientific basis in the main. One sees a disturbed child, then one looks back at it's life history and it is easy to find some incident to which the blame could be laid.

I would have thought that one would need to prove insufficient care had been taken. If the hospital did what was considered, all the right things, and it was one of those unfortunate failed cases one gets a small percentage of, then is there a case to answer ?
Perhaps they should sue themselves for having sex and creating the situation.
Anyway it is clear they were wrong, they did have the resources to bring her up after all.

I entirely agree that it is 'emotional thinking' - and in this instance, the report advises that the child is well adjusted, and mature beyond her years.
In common with any number of people (myself included!) she has managed to reach maturity with a reasonable grasp of morality and sanity in spite of, rather than because of, her parents, and their attitudes to her.
