// The inquiry, chaired by former mandarin Sir John Chilcot, has admitted its final report will not name anyone who has been sent details of the accusations against them in his draft inquiry report as part of the controversial Maxwellisation process.
The news will raise fears of a Whitewash because civil servants and ministers will be able to persuade Sir John to remove their details in secret and never be named.
It can also be revealed that scores of former ministers and officials are being offered free legal advice during the Maxwellisation process about how to formulate their answers.
The £10million inquiry started work in 2009 and was due to report the following year. //

A complete waste of taxpayers money. Should this farce be halted immediately?

"and Maxwellisation is not I am afraid controversial - it reflects the need for someone to be able to answer accusations " if they have anything to answer it should be to questions put to them at an enquiry, not by being able to change and doctor a report before it can be seen by one and all....if you can be bothered look up what Lord Denning said on the matter some...

I fail to understand why this Enquiry should be taking so long, but to halt it now would make no sense.

If the report is heavily redacted, as they seem to be admitting it will be, what is the point of continuing? Other than Chilcot and all the lawyers taking their hefty fees from the tax payer, who benefits?
It was never going to be anything other that a whitewash.
The winner gets to write the history.
Its tricky Gromit, I will agree but the present Government needs to pull its finger out and sort this mess out.

Mikey,
You have not forgotten the the Conservatives supported the wars and voted for them in the House of Commons? It is in their interest too, to stop the inquiry from publishing names.
// former mandarin//
is
it is a bit like being a Cub - once a cub, always a cub
and once a Mandarin one is always dedicated to serving the Master

and Maxwellisation is not I am afraid controversial - it reflects the need for someone to be able to answer accusations

and free legal advice - well not quite, someone pays - and the lawyers will act to protect the reputation of the payers ( in this case whitehall ) and perhaps not the individual mandarin

and I think under the Inquiries Act 2005 - which was brought in to limit the money poured into lawyers pockets - there are powers to call it all off however the payer may think that they are over the cost hump and so it worth more to finish the job

Bloody SUnday cost £200m - that is more than £10m per bereaved
when I asked why they jjust didnt give £10m to each bereaved family I was told that I jjust didnt understand how things worked

this whole farce nneds to end now...most sane peoople know what happened, this is just throwing good money after bad and we wont get the "truth" only the truth that those involved want us to have.

Putting GWB aside Phony Blair agreed to help GWB out not really thinking anything would probably come of it, easy promise to make.....next thing you know all hell breaks loose...GWB calls on his old mucker Phony to come good on his promise...Phoney c r a p s himself "dont panic , dont panic" comes up with a cunning or so he thought plan... lie to get the required go-ahead (sexed up docs etc).....job done....the dog, GWB, now has the tail, Phony B wagging...no WMD found etc etc blah blah, plenty of military lives lost for nothing....years down the line we have ISIS to contend with..thanks George and Phony !
