Is it at all possible that probably the next leader of the Labour Party could in fact had forgotten meeting Dyab Abou Jahjah?

/// Mr Corbyn, 66, tonight finally admitted that he had met the Islamist radical. He said: 'My staff have researched this and it appears I did meet this man. ///

It would seem that he is not on his own though.

Tony Blair cuddled up to Gaddafi.

And Jack Straw shook the hand of President Mugabe, but to be fair Jack said "this was a mistake because Mugabe was sittng in a 'DARK' corner".

Lighten up Mr Mugabe.

Politicians of all persuasions met Jimmy Savile over the years, - lighten up guys! Even the Queen had to entertain Nicolae Ceaușescu and his dreadful wife. It's called public life, forget it, - unless you want to sink to Grub Street levels
Khandro. Quite so.

/// I was actually crossing swords with AH ///

And you wasn't crossing swords with me also?

I refer you to your 16:06 post.

///Baldric

If you didn't do so much copy and paste which you accuse others of doing, your latest post would have been just this.

/// I find it somewhat ironic that someone who goes in for as much Copy and Paste as you do can be concerned about something 'that takes up thread space'. ///

Three lines, that's all.

Kettle calling etc etc.///

Just following AH's lead AOG, don't normally do it, just want to be sure he can follow the thread.

By the way have you pointed out how much space he wastes to him?
Baldric, I sense we are failing to communicate here.

What is happening is exactly what I hoped we could all avoid, which is spatting pointlessly between ourselves.

I have tried to stop this from happening, if you wish to continue poking and prodding for a reaction, you won't get one here - you may draw AOG into more exchanges, but it's his thread so I have no problem there.

But please remember, the point of this section is News - debate and exchange of views, it's not a one-upmanship contest.

I also offer my best wishes for a speedy recovery and repeat - friends again?

/// I notice that the right on-ers have not replied to my point about M.T. & Pinochet. ///

Sorry about that Ron, I was otherwise engaged.

Now M.T & Pinochet? I don't think she used the recent Labour tactic by first denying that she had met him, and then having to admit later that she did, or the more distant Jack Straw excuse that he couldn't see who he was shaking hands with, because Mr Mugabe was sitting in a dark corner.

You just couldn't make it up, but wait a minute they actually tried to.

/// I know it is something I am guilty of, I get into a dog / bone interface with very little provocation!///

You certainly do!
Of all Corbyn's faults, this is probably low down on the list. It won't matter anyway, probably.
Baldric - "/// I know it is something I am guilty of, I get into a dog / bone interface with very little provocation!///

You certainly do!"

Yes, but i am trying to stop, for reasons i have explained - care to join me?
I'm trying to remember any of the politicians who met Gerry Adams and were vilified in the press for doing so. Meetings like that might have helped in some way to advance the peace.
Hurrah! Back on track!

I think the spin that is being put on this situation is that Mr Corbyn was dissembling when he said he did not know who Mr Jahjah.

In fact - as been proved, he would gain absolutely nothing from lying, since like any MP, his meetings are subject to record.

I am inclined to believe that he simply forgot that he had met the gentleman concerned, and as Sandy points out, meeting someone is not the same as endorsing their views.
Indeed, Martin McGuinness put his reputation on the line when he met, and shook hands, with a senior member of 'The Establishment'.
pmsl @ this thread, it really has had me giggling like a school kid.

But, this is a serious News item, how could you?
When I was a student I once met my college medical officer, a certain Dr. Harold Shipman. Does that make me a homicidal maniac, or just one very lucky guy?
I suppose you were very lucky that you didn't meet him when you were a student at the University of the Third Age. ☺
The main source of amusement is andy repeatedly posting about not getting involved in 'exchanges that go nowhere' although in fairness he has 'tried to stop this from happening'
\through one's life, does one make an effort only to meet nice people ?
how do the police cope - or judges or prison officers ?

or to put it another way

when the Duke of Windsor met Hitler did that make the Duke a (b) fool, or was he one beforehand ?
homicidal maniac obviously Jackdaw

and there was I thinking you only went to a nice college like Money College Oxbridge

or did Dr Shipman wreak evil havoc on rich Lords and Ladies before going downhill to Denton ..... ?

///The main source of amusement is andy repeatedly posting about not getting involved in 'exchanges that go nowhere' although in fairness he has 'tried to stop this from happening'///

Just didn't work out for him, did it?
