I don't know what happened. The OP is enough. I can't read the report.
Boo - "Whaqt is wrong with you both?

A horrible news story which you both have hijacked in your petty point scoring battle- it's beneath you gentlemen!"

I don't think there is anything wrong with either of us!

We are debating the potential causes of this dreadful action, and delving into possible influences that may or may not have induced this behaviour.

I am certainly not 'scoring points', and my perception is that Retrocop is not doing so either - so I fail to see why you are so upset.
"so I fail to see why you are so upset. "

Really? LOL

I'm out...
Yes really.

Honestly Boo, as far as I am concerned, the thread is moving on - on message - as threads do, exploring other aspects and issues, I fail to see why you think that is wrong, or beneath us.

Would you prefer that I restricted my posts to endlessly hand-wringing about how horrible this news is? I thought we could take that as read, and discuss some of the potential reasons.

If you feel that is wrong, then there is nothing I can do about that.
I can't read this, was the horse saved ?
Sadly not - as a result of its injuries, the horse had to be put down.

Really sad.
No chaptazbru2, it was not.
Oh hell .....
This is more common than many people imagine it to be unfortunately.
It makes me wonder why people leave their horses so vulnerable out in fields all night really ! Like those alpacas a few weeks back when they were attacked twice, after the first time I would have made sure they were safe.
Talk about trying to stifle debate!!

I'm with Andy. I don't think video games or violent movies encourage sexual deviance's. It's there to start with.

chaptazbru - "It makes me wonder why people leave their horses so vulnerable out in fields all night really !"

I am not a horse owner, so i cannot speak from a position of knowledge, but i would guess that people want their horses to be in as natural an environment as possible, which, for a horse, is outside.

Add in the costs of stabling daily, which could be prohibitive - it's a difficult situation, but of course, anyone should be able to leave an animal outside without it being attacked and violated like this.
ummmm - "Talk about trying to stifle debate!!

I'm with Andy. I don't think video games or violent movies encourage sexual deviance's. It's there to start with."

Thanks ummmm.

If everyone acts on the stimulous they receive most, then I should have a pathological and unstoppable desire to be a rock musician - I have spent huge amounts of my time watching them listening to them talking to them, and hanging out with them, quite apart from all the listening and watching I have done and still do at home.

But no - I have never felt the urge to play any instrument, and don't see it happening any time soon.
//I don't think video games or violent movies encourage sexual deviance's.//

I do.
Naomi - "//I don't think video games or violent movies encourage sexual deviance's.//

I do."

Then we agree.

What I disagree with is that on their own and in isolation, games and videos provoke deviant behaviour.

What happens is that someone who already has those deviant tendencies will gravitate towards violent and / or sexual images to excess, which is not normal behaviour.

But the deviancy has to be in place to begin with, it simply manifests itself with the excess interest in deviant images.
It might bring it out in people that already have it....but it doesn't make people develop it.
What makes you think this happened at night? A lot of horse owners, like myself, prefer to leave horses out on a night if the weather is ok -its natural. You can't stop nutters -it would be much easier to abuse a horse in a stable than chase around a field after it wouldn't it?
I agree with naomi at 17:22.
Retrochic - "...it would be much easier to abuse a horse in a stable than chase around a field after it wouldn't it?"

Again, I am no expert, but in order to attack a horse in a stable, you need to invade property, and possibly encounter locks, security lights, people living near by who would be disturbed by the noise, and so on.

It would be far easier to attack a horse which may be sleeping, or certainly docile - so stabbing it would be as simple as walking up to it. The horse would then be off its legs, and vulnerable to any further attack - once again with no-one near to see or hear what was going on.
Andy you are no expert as you say -I am -50 years of horse ownership. I don't want to go into gory details but its not easy to catch a horse in a field -horses sleep on their feet and are hard wired for flight -they are prey animals. It would require catching a horse to do anything in a field as any lunging towards an animal would trigger flight response straight away. A horses heart is deep in the chest cavity and its clear from the report the horse was put down as a result of its injuries that the initial injury was not fatal and hardly likely to 'floor' the animal .As for stabling -stables are never locked in case of fire. Horses are not 'vocal' so disregard cowboy films or Black Beauty calling for help as this just does not happen -when they perceive they are in danger they are quiet -they are prey animals. Anyone with a feed bucket and head collar could carry out whatever they anted in a stable in relative quietness. Its a horrible story and you insinuating somehow the way horses are kept is at fault is both distressing and ignorant .
