It would be bad enough if the victims had been at the air show but to have just been going about their daily business. Terrible. I'm a big fan of air shows but as has been said by others, maybe they're not worth the risk.

alva, at least you are ok....a glass of good cognac or wine tonight, I hope. Agree even though it's distasteful, if 7 had to go, it should have been those in there, not innocent passers-by. I do think that these shows incite extra stunts, the incidence rate at them so high.......shame to lose an aircraft bordering on being vintage too for such a stunt, not that devalues what happened. Appalling.
Stay in the cave _ it's dangerous out there.
How shocking, I can't believe I haven't that news until now.
I live close to Shoreham airpport and heard all the noise, sirens, saw ambulances and air ambulance arriving. At that point, I assumed it was a bad car crash. Didn't know it was a plane until later. THat stretch of road is always very busy.
personally, I feel it is a great shame to have happened and feel very sorry for all who have suffered. no blame to anyone just sorrow.
I agree LJ, a great tragedy for so many people.
The pilot was dragged out of the plane by the rescue services and is critical in hospital according to the news this morning.
Should these old planes be dragged out for air shows I wonder?
I agree with those who say these shows should not be held over such busy areas.
So sorry for those who lost their lives and their families.
The usual hand wringing left wanting to ban everything?

Is it because it is primarily military or because of the perceived octane junkies following it.

I have no problem with them and I live under where they fly, red arrows just shot right over my house so its not as if I am a NIMBY.
Sky News now saying 'highly' likely' 11 dead.

Not saying these shows should be banned but not sensible to hold in areas such as this. The A27 is a busy busy road.

And I'm not a lefty, I'm a pragmatist.
not easy for the police as I would guess with that cremation of a fireball, there's ain't too much left of some folk - has to be worked back from those missing.
The day before, I was driving along the perimeter road at Heathrow and I had an image come into my mind of a small plane crashing down onto the traffic ahead of me. I pictured it skidding along the road in a black cloud and wondering if I would be able to get out of the car and run for it before it hit me and realising that I probably couldn't. Wierd. I can't imagine how the pilot's going to feel when he realises how many deaths have been caused IF he survives

Make them illegal above the land, and if they have to be held, restrict these aerobatics to taking place over the sea.
Sorry I never came back earlier .. but I feel that I had to add this ..

A few minutes prior to the plane crashing I drove away from the traffic lights where the disaster took place. At the time I thought no more of it, as I wasn't aware of what was about to happen... over the past couple of nights I have slept very badly and I keep waking up thinking about how close I had been and about the people who may have been involved.

The people I talk of were the families and couples who were walking along the A27 from Lancing towards the airshow.. directly into the path of the oncoming crash. They were carrying cool boxes, picnics and chairs, all set for a fun day watching the show from the perimeters, the river bank, or the roadside.
For some reason and I dont know why, but I can recall them in great detail even though I was travelling in the opposite direction at 30-40mph. I can even recollect a couple in their early 40s with a labrador who were going in that direction, I can visualise them and their dog quite clearly although I wasn't contiously aware of having even given them more than a casual glance.
What became of those people walking along that carriageway.. did they survive, or did I see them in their final minutes ?

I can't stop thinking about it ... day and night !

Alav......it's amazing what we notice in our peripheral vision that we'd not give another thought to until something like this happens....
Then of course it plays over and over in such detail....

It's going to take you ages to stop feeling what you are feeling now I think.....don't bottle up how you feel is the best I can offer.....

You know you were lucky by minutes....but that can be hard to appreciate in light of what did happen to some..........Gx
