According to their Twitter profile, the transgender charity in question (Chrysalis) did not contact the police, and they are claiming that the Telegraph's story is wildly inaccurate:

This might mean that some people have taken a press story and because it fits in nicely with their agenda to attack certain parts of society, it gains traction.
If it transpires that this story really is wildly inaccurate, the sad thing is, most people won't remember. In six months time it will still be 'true'.
It might be why in a recent survey, newspaper journalists were rated only just above politicians as being the least trustworthy profession in the country.
