Tomorrow the 31st August sees the 18th anniversary of Princess Diana's death, what brought about the Nation's total admiration towards her?

I'm afraid that I am with the ones who never really liked her and saw her faults. I was far from uncritical of the Royal Family in promoting the match, b.t.w. My old headmaster retired to SevenOakes and took a part-time teaching job. He taught her and reported to us that she was 'sly, thick as planks and not a patch on grammar-school girls like us'. He was very emphatic on the 'sly'.

So, I'm sorry she had such a sad life and death - very tragic - but I have never admired her. I think that she would have caused a lot of damage had she lived and I worry slightly about William's blind adoration. (Were I Kate, I would never have accepted Di's engagement ring and I am concerned for Kate.) Sorry If I upset some people, I would never have wished her sad life on anyone and I do blame the Queen and Prince Philip for the tragedy which happened.

You'd have to define 'nation' and 'total admiration', AOG.

She was just another discarded trophy wife who, admittedly, got involved with important causes but in the end was as much the peoples' princess as I'm the Archbishop of Canterbury's PA.
She died as a result of poor judgement, that's all.

As usual some of the comments on here talking about her as if she was a piece of meat disgust me. If you're anti-royal anyway then granted you won't like her. She didn't deserve that kind of treatment though and yes I think when she married Charles she was extremely naïve and not that bright so had no idea what she was letting herself in for. God a young woman got mangled in a car and left 2 boys motherless. Have a heart some of you.

I think she was a lot of peoples idea of a fairytale princess and I think she was used and abused by the Royal family, who were not popular before she came along, and then were jealous because she became more popular than them.
