Egghead Cj, A Murderer......well Thats
what he says.
I knew he was gay but never knew he was a rent boy!
He also says that the BBC wouldn't let him on Strictly Come Dancing with a male partner.
That would be fun.

It was not a pun.......it's an expression to describe anybody using an exaggeration to boost the sale of a book....usually a flattering puff piece but not in this case.....
You say you know Andy well so you know he wouldn't use an insulting pun in a crass way so you have another agenda here....or you can't spell.....x

Sqad - "News is becoming such, that one has to look up the meaning of words or phrases and dash to the www.before posting."
I cannot legislate for people like AOG who are so keen to have a personal dig that they make themselves look foolish in their haste.
However - the phrase 'puff piece' is well known and often used in media circles, and for the record, anyone on here who knows me even vaguely knows that a homophobic jibe is something I would simply never undertake, it is contemptible.
The word 'puff' - as advised, means a breath of air, it is also slang for marijuana, and there are other meanings.
The word you are thinking of is 'pouf' which is pronounced the same, but has a defined meaning as a slang (and derogatory) label for a male homosexual.
Hopefully that has cleared up any misunderstanding.

I think AOG is hoist by his own petard (God forbid he makes a childish joke out of that as well!) but he is like a dog with a bone, and will insist that he is right when I - and others - know that on this occasion he is wrong - both on his ignorance of the language, and the use of it by myself, and heaven knows he has read enough of it to know better!

AOG - "Most would have been polite enough to add "please excuse the pun", or better, would have chosen not to use it in the first place."
I would not add' please excuse the pun', because I was not making a pun, and I expect people to adult enough to know that I don't make cheap jibes with infantile humour, so there is no need to qualify what I write.
You of course are the exception, but that is down to your personal animosity, and I cannot legislate for that.

Had a week look at Wikipedia and found out that CJ De Mooi resides in Wales with his civil partner Andrew Doran. CJ de Mooi is not de Mooi's birth name: he had it changed by deed poll at age 19 and is quoted as saying "I no longer wanted to be associated with my family". Apparently had a very abusive childhood. Don't know why I thought he was married (to a female), must have been dreaming.
Fine, Sqad.....I have read phrases here that are new to me but I would find out what they meant if I was going to contribute.....or apologise if it was pointed out I had the wrong end of the stick.
AOG was, and still may be, determined to prove Andy used the term nastily.....even after being told what it meant.....
Puff piece is a very common term....and means exactly what it says.....a puffed up piece of journalism.

Sqad - "I have never heard of the phrase "puff piece" and to me it meant a piece of "puff" "poof" pouf" call it what you will and i didn't intend to dash to the internet.
Clearly I should have done."
There is no disgrace in not having heard of something - every day is a school day on here, I find.
But it's one thing to be unfamiliar with a term, and it is entirely another to assume that someone uses it as a pathetic pop at gay people, and then moans because the statement wasn't qualified as a 'pun'.
But still - it's all gone quiet now - as it usually does in these situations!

We cross-posted - but thanks again for your support - your jovial asides have stopped the usual increasing animosity that tends to creep in sometimes. x
