http:// www.bbc .co.uk/ news/uk -englan d-south -yorksh ire-341 91638
The more I see of at that haircut, the more I think how stupid it makes her look. Did her mother really think that it was OK to send her daughter to school looking like that ?

There's a 'failing school' here in Belfast has brought in a new headmaster to try and get it back on its feet. The parents are complaining that it's too strict now.

These stories always crop up after the summer holidays, when people have had a while away from school, and got a little bit too individual.
The same situation as always - child contarvevnes uniform policy - school enforces uniform policy - parent sides with child, conveniently swerving the issue away from uniform policy and into infringement (sorry!) or personal freedom.
I don't think that siding with your child against an institution they require for education is a good idea.
My life motto is, never upset someone whose co-operation you need.

mikey - "Leaving aside the obvious error in thinking that you can circumnavigate the school rules, what on earth possessed the girl to have such a bizarre haircut in the first place ? It looks ludicrous !"
Surely you remember the golden rules of adolescence?
If you can dress, speak, behave and listen to music that simultaneously binds you to your peer group, and seriously winds up the boring old folks that occupy the same space as you - that is a real result.
It appears that the second edict has been achieved as far as you are concerned! LOL!

Well, it doesn't seem to be winding up her daft mother AH !
There is another important point here, and its covered in the last few seconds of the BBC Link.
The Headmaster said that "he didn't think the recent media interest was in any way in the interest of the child"
Perhaps the mother shouldn't be parading her daughter in front of the media in this way ? What kind of mother would allow her daughter to make a laughing stock of herself, and then willingly encourage the media to profit from it.

The kind of mother who lives in the modern world - with social media and Jeremy Kyle.

What more information do we need ?
She has clearly transgressed against the school's rules, and common sense should have told the mother that. She is the one to blame here, not the immature child. And there is no room for any doubt about the mother's part in parading her daughter in front of the media.
