At Least This Story Has A Happy Ending

The lad was arrested because his school thought he'd brought a bomb onsite.

Turned out to be a clock he'd made.

Now he's been invited to the White House, and (according to the BBC Radio News just now) has had commendations from NASA and Mark Zuckerberg!

A pity such vigilance isn't shown prior to the many school massacres over the past three decades, one might argue?

presumably the same thing would have happened if he'd painted a football black, since "black sphere with fuse" and "clock with bits of wire" are the two main cartoon depictions of bombs.

The "thinks its a bomb" law works on the same basis as our harassment legislation - it depends on the 'victim' and if they think it looks like a bomb

and he had three ( teachers who were willing to swear " oh mar gard, we thought he had a bomb" )

at least his family had a sense of humour
but I have heard no one say - only in America and shrug their shoulders
