A taser could have done the same job of stopping the attacker, but a soldier has to use whatever weapon is at his (or her) disposal.
I am a little suspicious by the term 'apparently' tried to attack a guard. It will be interesting to see if that can be corobarated.

As I suspected, no evidence she had a knife, and eyewitness reports differ from the Israeli version...

The 18-year-old died of her wounds in the Shaare Zedek Medical Centre later in the day.

Israeli soldiers know well that a burka can conceal a man, an explosives belt or any kind of gun or other weapon. The Israeli army is very highly trained, and only too well aware of the possibility of instigating an incident which can be escalated by the palestinians. It is quite possible that this woman set out to be a martyr, to give her fellow palestinians a reason for an uprising.
Looks to me like a provocation whatever the 'evidence' Both sides will calim something different(no change there) but it must boil down to the fact the woman must have known what the IDF were like so why do it?
Both sides in this continuing conflict are unbelievable. I simply cannot see any end to it.
