Seriously, what makes some people tick? Not for the first time our great hero is vandalised.

What would he make of it??

Many German residents in Woodford Green?
Could have been worse I suppose, at least it can be cleaned. I'm more upset when I read about war memorial plaques being melted down for scrap value.
no great damage, it's just paint.
Sadly there's a good chance the culprit(s) have never even heard of him.
I suspect that he would have curled a lip in disgust (as do I) at the lack of appreciation and then dismissed the perpetrators as dust. The whole theme leads to a deeper thread about our national identity - another, and difficult, subject. Sir W. would (had the vandalism been done to another head of state's statue probably have issued to apprehend the perpetrators and make them a national example of disgrace.
Probably sworn long and loud
As I did

And if these yobs get caught (unlikely), they will probably get a warning not to be naughty again!!!!
PaamkySmooch, whoever did it wants you to be outraged. Don't give them the satisfaction. The statue can be cleaned.
As if they would ever know
if he was still around, he´d probably put 2 fingers up to the perpertrator
How did they know it was winny looks more like me .
This is why statues are generally made from hard wearing material such as bronze and granite - they are often attacked by various people.

Churchill, was 'egged' on several occasions when he was alive, so would probably realise that ths kind of thing is inevitable.
Looks like kids done it. Anyone with a political message would have....left a message....
Kids and drunks and other bad'uns do this all the time.
If the statue's very valuable, why's it left in a place where it can be damaged with no witnesses?

Idiots.
Churchill was never the head of state, just an outstanding PM. It tends to be anti-Tory sentiment.
Purely coincidental, of course but he got mentioned in two different contexts in "Planet Oil", on BBC4, last night.

His desire, as First Lord of the Admiralty, to update our ships from slow and coal-fired, to fast and oil-powered, is hardly cause for paint-flinging (unless you are German??), I would think.

His involvement in the carve-up of the middle east's oil reserves might have sparked some insta-anger in someone with ties to that part of the world.

Otherwise it would just be general leftie backlash against someone who the Tories, 'Kippers and more extreme far-right groups hold dear.

BBC3 is also running an "Is Britain Racist" theme week, which cannot help wind up hatred of imagery associated with racism, such as Winnie, bulldogs, the Union Flag, the cross of St George and so on.

What a way to ruin Agincourt anniversary year!
