What was our pitiful contribution. A few rolls of B&Q chain link fencing hurriedly rushed over to Calais.The type that household scissors can cut through. Bullets and barbed wire are a better alternative.

It is so easy to sit at a computer screen and critisize isn't it.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to keep out someone who wants to come here (no country can do it not just the UK).

We are surrounded by water in the UK, and someone can be dropped off in a boat at midnight on a quiet beach.

We have THOUSANDS of lorries coming in to the UK every day, many driven by foreign lorry drivers who may be happy to take some money to put a few illegal immigrants in the back.

You cant check every remote beach all the time, you cant open up every lorry that comes in (if you did the delays would be incredible).

There are people traffikers and criminals who will take money to smuggle people in, and no country in the world can stop it.

Maybe you would like to suggest how we stop it?

Canary, I wonder what we spend to cope with the illegal immigrants once they get in? Health, security, legal aid, etc. etc. It is probably billions more than a proper border policy would cost. That is before you count the social cost that we will all pay eventually. Mandelson, Blair, and Brown should hang their heads in shame. They won't though, because they don't know the meaning of the word. The future will condemn us all for letting it happen.

This country stopped the Wehrmacht,Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine with bombs,bullets and barbed wire from invading.OK so a few spies parachuted in or landed by U-boat but we secured our Island. It can be done with the same means if there was the will. If lorries have to be searched and delayed then so be it. They are being delayed by immigrants on the otherside and perishables they contain are ruined at great cost as well.More sniffer dogs only consume a few tins of winalot!!

There is a clue here, 'someone' is not thousands. Check every lorry, and if the operators and the French try to make that impossible shut the tunnel. The Royal Navy should be funded and empowered to protect us.

We managed it during WW2, and those wanting to 'come in' had the benefit of planes, parachutes, warships, invasion barges and submarines.

Just want to add weight to the obvious answer already given by retrocop and AOG - in essence stop all traffic and check. It will slow things down, but so what? This current situation is completely barmy.

My nephew was attacked in Bradford whilst walking down a street with his then fiancee - all because he accidentally made eye contact with an unsavoury-looking type walking towards them. He ended up with a broken nose - protested at the E. European's gesture to his fiancee - and the Eastern European illegal immigrant then arrested (police knew they were in Bradford town centre and were ready for an alarm call) turned out to be armed with knives and a gun. My nephew was lucky and the guys were found to be illegals.
This is all avoidable.
