Five Libyian soldiers, over in the UK for training, were sentenced to prison in the UK for rape and attacks on women.

Three of the men have served their sentence AND ARE NOW CLAIMING ASYLUM !!!!!

According to the BBC web site:

"On the same night Khaled El Azibi, 19, Ibrahim Naji El Maarfi, 21, and 28-year-old Mohammed Abdalsalam fled the barracks and carried out sex attacks on three women.

El Azibi was sentenced to 12 months and El Maarfi and Abdalsalam each to 10 months.

All three have been released and are seeking asylum in the UK"

Article doesn't seem to give many details. I guess it depends on whether we are obliged to take the claim seriously. What is their excuse for needing asylum ?
A little more info here, Old_Geezer

Apparently there is now a "fear of persecution" for bringing Libya into disrepute as a result of their criminal convictions in the UK.

Daniel Zeichner, Labour MP for Cambridge, said "everyone has the right to be treated the proper way" and blamed the Conservative government and Ministry of Defence for the "appalling mess" that led to the attacks taking place.

Typical Labour responce.

Yes Mr Zeichner "The Proper Way" is to send them back.
response.
Referring to your link VHG, an ideal usage for the empty Bassingbourn Barracks, is to use it to house the incoming refugees.
// Yes Mr Zeichner "The Proper Way" is to send them back.//

the proper way as you well know is to follow the legal procedures in place AOG

even for murderers and rapists....
Peter Pedant

Are we taking about 'British' Law or 'EU' Law?
AOG I live just 3 miles from Bassingbourn the barracks have already been identified as a potential site for refugees.
As they will face a death penalty if they go home they will almost certainly be granted asylum.

/// As they will face a death penalty if they go home they will almost certainly be granted asylum. ///

It will soon be "They might catch cold, due to the change in temperatures, if they are sent them back".
"As they will face a death penalty if they go home "

and...why is that our problem ?

I couldnt give a rats rs what happens to these scum, i just dont want them here and funded by us

As well as a continuing threat to women.
Closing paragraphs from the link in Bigbad's reply

"If an application like this were to succeed it would bring the asylum system into disrepute at a time when many are in genuine need of sanctuary from war and persecution."

The Home Office, which does not comment on individual cases, said: "Those who break our laws should be removed from the country at the earliest opportunity and we will seek to remove any foreign national offender who receives a custodial sentence for a criminal offence."
//

What I want to know is why the sentences were so short? The two who raped a male got 12 years each. What on earth is influencing our sentencing guidelines?

"Are we taking about 'British' Law or 'EU' Law?"

Alas we are talking about UK law, AOG.

The 1998 Human Rights Act incorporated into UK law, almost word for word, the European Convention on Human Rights. These three are almost certainly seeking sanctuary with that law at the basis of their claim. Mr Cameron promised, in 2010, to repeal the law and replace it with a UK "Bill of Rights" (whatever that might mean). From 2010 to 2015 he blamed the LibDems in the Coalition for blocking the move. I haven't seen much movement since last May to revive the proposal.
And as Eddie has said, if they face the death penalty when they return they will certainly succeed in their claim. Even if not, if they can show they face "inhuman" punishment they will also succeed. That's the beauty of this particular law - it protects the guilty as well as the innocent.

How can they possibly show or even prove that they face inhuman punishment or even the death sentence?

Have they received such threats from the Libyan authorities?
Let them get the death penalty at home! Why should we be feeding añd clothing them!
"How can they possibly show or even prove that they face inhuman punishment or even the death sentence? "

That's what their highly paid "legal team" (funded by Legal Aid - i.e. you and me - natch) will do to earn their money, AOG.
