On last night's LBC radio phone-in, one woman caller asked "if bombs were raining down on you, wouldn't you all want to rush off to a safe country"?

I wanted to say to her, "they once did, and we didn't".

We don't want them just to say "enough is enough" we need them to take some definite action now, and before the winter sets in, and we then see even more emotion stirring photographs.

Nasty as WWII (which presumably what you are thinking of) was for Britain, it hardly compares to Syria's civil war, or indeed to the experiences of the mainland Europeans who DID flee persecution etc.
If you remember (or read history) Britain was never actually invaded, thanks to the RAF and others, nor was it Churchill himself raining bombs down on his own people.
Civil Wars are quite often far, far worse for the ordinary populace than international ones

Yes thanks to the RAF, and the determination of others, to protect our borders. back in those far off days.

And even if Churchill himself himself had been raining bombs down upon us, they would have still been bombs and no different to the Luftwaffe's.

I wasn't around during our civil war, so I can't comment, but I was certainly around during WW2, and that was bad enough.

But I suspect you wasn't around for either so you are not in a position to comment on which is the worse.

Air raid shelters? The countryside (in the case of city-dwelling children)?
Apart from places like Latakia in Syria (where you could just about have a decent beach holiday) more or less nowhere in Syria is safe.

WWII in parts of mainland Europe, from France to the Soviet Union, was a whole world away from what Britain experienced. That is not to downplay the grimness of what the British people DID go through, but it was still on another level for many.
