Possibly -- although, having said that, the more exposure the issue receives the easier it will be to change attitudes in the future.

All Mr Putin cares about are the things that make him popular. He's probably calculated that being seen with Elton John will be good publicity
If he thinks softening the stance on gay issues will also enhance his popularity then he will do so
But I'd be very surprised if that were the case. Expect a high profile statement expressing lots of platitudes about respecting diversity - and then business as usual

I saw Reggie Yates' "extreme Russia" series a few weeks back and program 2 was about Gays etc. If you think there are homophobic attitudes in Britain, forget it, there is along way to go in Russia, quite frightening.

I agree with Jim here.

If people hadn't started to ask questions about this issue all over the world, we wouldn't have the freedom from discrimination that we have today.

Why should Russia be a special case ?

I am not Eltons greatest fan but more power to his elbow here !
