And as Russia and Egypt are pretty miffed at the UK decision to suspend flights (which other countries are now also doing), if a bomb was the cause, will that information be repressed so that the Russians and Egytptians don't have to admit they were wrong?
Stupid idea us using this as a pretext for getting involved in the Syrian War. If it does prove to be a bomb, the it would be understandable for Russia to take retalitary action, but not the UK.
Russia and Egypt are not wrong. They are looking for evidence and have made no conclusion yet. And I rather think Russia would sieze on it rather than repress it. It would get public opinion on the side of bombing ISIS. The Egyptians are fearful of harming their tourist trade, but they would welcome flushing out IS in Egypt.
Not since they murdered Litvinenko have we done so
In fairness we may have shared something in this instance, heavily sanitised, but they are probably in a huff that it wasn't them that got there first.
We have no investigators in Egypt so the British position is supposition at best.
Russia and Egypt are the ones gathering evidence. They might ultimately decide the evidence does support the bomb theory. However, they are not yet ready to confirm that. The British jumping the gun will be irritating, but the truth will soon be known.
I'd have thought the downing of an airliner full of Russian people would actually be good news for Putin. He would have carte blanche to hit Assads enemies with anything he likes, and the US would have to lump it.
You don't need to have investigators in Egypt to intercept traffic, which is apparently what happened. Depending on what exactly was picked up, there will be a greater level or degree of supposition involved
It wouldn't be the first time the UK has been privy to inside info on terrorism affecting Russia, Trouble is, as DTC pointed out, sadly they can't always be trusted to be taken into our confidence
