Perhaps, after years of having a supposedly 'Socialist' party, i.e. New Labour and being thoroughly confused as to quite what Socialist principles are supposed to be, many people have decided to read up on the ideology now that we apparently have a 'real' Socialist leader of the opposition.

Perhaps Newton's Third Law also affects party politics. Faced with the prospect of having to lose yet more money by being in work, ordinary working people and others not so 'ordinary' are curious to explore any alternatives. probably more of a pendulum motion than a lurch.

I can’t think of a single socialist/communist regime that’s worked to the benefit of the people – and I’ve seen several first hand. What the appeal is I'll never understand. It's an unworkable philosophy.
