A nasty attack of self-importance?

I'm inclined to be sceptical of the financial justification for this - the numbers given don't look that convincing.

Perhaps this should be the plane provided ...

Sounds ok to me.
//A nasty attack of self-importance? //

How so? It will also be used by senior ministers and the Royal Family.
/// A government spokesperson said; "As part of the government's defence review, we have been looking at ways to make better use of the RAF fleet to transport senior ministers and consequently deliver savings for taxpayers. ///

No need to use RAF fleet to deliver savings to me, I will willingly pick them up myself.
So how do you expect him to get to commitments overseas?

Sprout wings anf fly?
\\\\\A nasty attack of self-importance? \\\\

and quite right too......he IS important.....he is the Prime Minister of the UK.

Only in the UK, would the cheapskates haggle over the use of an aeroplane.
Seems sensible, it continues in its current role and will be also used by Prime Minister and other Ministers and the Royal Family.
Some have said he needs a rocket up his a**e so perhaps this?

This isn't new. My father was a pilot in the RAF on the Queen's flight back in the 70s. The RAF have always been used for VIP flights. My dad regularly flew Willie Whitelaw to NI when he was NI Secretary.

It is new to have a dedicated plane for the PM.

The cost can be massaged to make it look like a 'saving' - how true that is only the Audit Commission will eventually determine - and it will be too late by then.
He's getting a plane? Our First Miniature bought herself an airport with a view to developing it as a spaceflight centre.
Think bigger Dave.
DSJ I expect him to use Easyjet, after all he has in the past!
I don't read it as dedicated to the PM but for use by PM, Royal Family and other senior politicians. It's just using a specific single plane rather than a selection of RAF ones. He's still going to fly whatever.
f t were just sat idle waiting to be used by the PM I would agree it was an expense too far, but it isn't.

//The plane's "primary use" would still be refuelling and it would continue to carry RAF livery.//
^^ If it
Prudie
Was that out of RAF Benson before Northolt? Andovers of the Queens Flight per chance.?
It will not be a dedicated aircraft. Apparently it can revert back to it's original military role as in flight refueller when needed.
sorry Mamyalynne missed your post.

I kinda think we're being spun a line about multiple use aircraft.
Her maj & co won't be flying about in a potential bomb any time soon.
Once the seats are in and all the attendant equipment for communications, posh desks etc are all installed it will be found to be not cost effective to revert to it's original use.
