But get ready for a period of rioting and looting if this officer is cleared of all charges.

//If - and I stress that no-one knows anything yet - this officer has shot someone with an unlicensed firearm, then he is not 'doing his job', and he fully deserves to be punished. //

Am I reading that correctly or did you not mean to put it that way?
The alleged perptrator had the unlicensed firearm!

Apologies all - I didn't read the link carefully - it is indeed the alleged criminal who carried the unlicensed weapon.

I don't even think they're suggesting the Officer used a non Police Issue weapon,

///She told a community meeting in Tottenham: "Further forensic examination will take place on the non-police issue firearm, and the firearm that was discharged by the police officer."

Even the head cop can't understand what is going off, but I notice that the 'community' have held a meeting, so I suppose they will sort things out.

/// Met Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said the Independent Police Complaints Commission’s move, which could see the officer involved face murder or manslaughter charges, was “unusual”. ///

/// Sir Bernard said the watchdog was due to attend the meeting called by the local community to address concerns about the renewed strain the shooting has placed on relations with police. Last week’s killing comes four years after Mark Duggan was killed by police in the same borough. ///

When a perp is shot by police the standard press announcement states,if it happeneds to be the case, a "non issue firearm" was found nearby,or in the car. It means it was not a police issue firearm that might confuse certain people. Remember Only the military and police have licensed handguns so any other weapon found at the scene will be an unlicensed firearm if it is similar to police issue. I am not talking antique coaching pistols here.
///She told a community meeting in Tottenham: "Further forensic examination will take place on the non-police issue firearm, and the firearm that was discharged by the police officer."

Why do the police feel the need to keep the “community” informed of their enquiries and investigations in Tottenham? Do they do the same in Cheltenham?

Sir Hyphen-Howe hasn’t exactly approached the matter with impartiality. “…the Independent Police Complaints Commission’s move, which could see the officer involved face murder or manslaughter charges, “.

The people of Tottenham must feel they are extremely unfortunate to be on the wrong end of two cold-blooded police slayings in a few years. Of course it’s purely coincidental that both the victims were involved in serious criminal activity. And so we move on to another series of investigations, inquests, enquiries, reviews, possible criminal proceedings, none of which will satisfy the “community” because their sons and brothers are always victims of a police force out of control. Meantime the hand-wringing prevails and those doing the wringing wonder in astonishment why, when they give guns to the police and send them to sort out violent criminals, they sometimes fire them at people.
J Baker had a gun, the Gun was there for a purpose, the purpose was to either Kill / Harm, he took the chance, he paid the price, hard luck. I wish the police officer well.
The police in Tottenham are not so innocent you know!

So are some members of the public that carry Illegal arms.
Yes - Police forces do keep the communities they serve in informed, good relations with the public are important in any part of the country.
Strange they can disclose details of the incident to all and sundry to keep them informed but are not allowed to show mug shots of dangerous escapees let loose amongst the community??
I don't recall hearing of senior officers rushing to attend "community meetings" to explain their actions in other areas, Mamy. Giving Press conferences, yes, but not at the beck and call of "the community". In fact, when events such as this happen in many areas the "community" rarely seems to feel the need to call meetings at all. Why do they do so in areas like Tottenham? Is it because their sons and brothers are the only ones on the wrong end of such operations? If so, I wonder why that is.

The reason it happens in places like Tottenham and not places like Cheltenham is because they know that they must "calm tensions" in such areas. But tensions might not be nearly so fraught if they did not have such a high incidence of serious criminals amongst their number.
AOG over eggin the pudding and just making it up as he goes along - again

over to you AOG for more screaming non-sequiturs .....

should there be an investigation when shomeone has been shot dead?
yeah dont see why not ...
retro I think the difference is that one is dead and the others arent BUT also the police's idea of data protection leaves something to be desired .....
To be fair, NJ, Cheltenham probably isn't stuffed to the gills with, well paid, race advisors(hustlers) that need placating.
People like this charmer, who I'll guarantee was in the thick of the action.

I didn't think that the British legal system used the term "homicide".
Pathetic how the police have to tread on eggshells and keep the community updated just to avoid another riot
