If recent police shootings are anything to go by, there would be numerous suspensions prior to lengthy and expensive inquiries.

But we have to be very careful, when we have Labour warning, of the possible damage to community relations.

Best to make firearms illegal for the cops, we don't want to upset the 'community' now do we?

Though it must be said that the Paris police were armed, and it cannot be guaranteed that an individual cop with only a pistol will face up to a maniac sporting a Kalashnikov.

Seeing armed Police-officers on British streets is something I believe that few of us wish to see; and any moves towards that eventually need to be deeply seriously considered, and a review in their usage would seem to be perfectly in order.

It has been a proud tradition not to have armed police officers for many years but if it is a choice between a rabid fanatical Jihadist with a Kalashnikov and more armed police I know who I would feel more comfortable with.
I believe there are two ARVs only for the whole of London. Nearly 20 years ago there were about 6 .I don't recall the threat alert level ever been raised as high as it is now either.

That is your opinion or is it based on actual fact, can you produce evidence of any poll being carried out on that issue?

Or is it the same as those who say that there are few who wish to see the introduction of ID cards or even the reintroduction of National Service?

I haven't read it yet but I mentioned the fact that it happened quite recently on another thread. It was the thread about the officer being arrested.
It was bound to happen. They may not strike but they are not obliged to carry firearms and can hand in their pink cards any time they like.
