I think it's broadcasts cost thousands of pounds a minute. Why then do they waste licence payers money and patronising them at the same time in this way?
We know that IS is what they choose to call themselves. Only people that by default think we are morons would continue to waste money by insisting the words 'so-called' be used every time they mention IS.

What gets me about this whole 'what should we call them' debate is the suspicion that if I was an ISIS bod I'd be lapping up the implied and uncalled for attention given my organisation, as reflected in the general fretting over a name. I couldn't personally give a damn what we call them - and they will be yesterday's news before long

Yes I know why they did it. But there comes a point where you have to accept reality. And "Myanmar" and "Burma" are essentially the same thing: it isn't as if they had renamed themselves the "Glorious (and not at all Repressive - honest ) Paradise of Myanmar"
well Daesh have renamed some of Syria and Iraq as their "caliphate" do we accept that too after a period of time?
"the BBC have to be seen to be even handed, even while they're blowing up concert halls and hacking the heads off relief workers."
the BBC do that? On my licence fee???
It does not do for the BBC to be impartial if it makes issues to clear. So they deliberately blur the lines. Except when it favours their deliberate left wing agenda.
"Daesh have renamed some of Syria and Iraq as their "caliphate" do we accept that too after a period of time? "

I think most would agree that that is rather optimistic of them, and perhaps not really in touch with the reality
COLMC52 must be rejoicing now that Robert Peston has left the Beeb, he could could make a thirty-second paragraph last five minutes what with his hesitations and drawn-out delivery...

I was talking about the OP's older cousin...

Born in 1952?
Colmc may have joined when he/she was 54. A number does not necessarily mean the year a poster was born.
...and a tongue-in-cheek remark does not mean it will not be analysed to death...

What offends me is the feeling they have to keep saying 'so-called' because they don't trust us to be able to come to the same conclusion as them.
But that's me, aspergers makes me sensitive to things that other people don't even notice. All my life it's been the same.
Thanks for your interest in my post. The problem is me and not the BBC I just needed to be sure. Low latent inhibition is no fun.
No need to explain colmc, but you do risk being heckled and jeered at if you mention anything negative about the bbc on here.
Question Author
So it would seem.
Colm...I have neither heckled nor jeered you. I have countered your post in the normal way, as have most people in this thread.

If I had realised that you had a mental health problem, I may have ignored you daft post. Can I suggest that you warn people in the future, before making any more such posts, so that we can react accordingly.
Question Author
That seems reasonable. How would you suggest I go about explaining my position on the Aspergers spectrum?

I don't think being like me is a form of mental illness as you suggest. It just makes me notice things others don't seem to. Misophonia is my main problem, especially now we have DAB. I find moist poppy ploppy 'Ps' and 'Ks' particularly excruciating.
Should I start my posts with a 'so-called' not quite right in the head warning?
mikey, just agree or disagree, there is no need to go any deeper than that!

The patronising bit I can understand but the money wasting bit I can not agree with.
Maybe you should have explained about your Asperger's on you're OP. Might have resulted in people giving you some leeway.

Get a stop watch and keep saying so-called over and over for a minute. That number of repetitions will not come close to the number of times the BBC insist their people repeat the epithet. However that minute you spent saying the same two words over and over again will have cost iro £20k to broadcast.
