Agreed. My mother in law has pulmonary fibrosis (which is one that comes under the COPD umbrella) and it's awful to watch.

My mum died at the age of 58 from Emphysema. She gave up smoking a few years prior to this but the damage had been done.

My dad died of smoking related heart problems eight years afterwards. He heads also developed Emphysema.

Nope, predictive text mangled my bit about my dad . He had developed emphysema plus was at risk of losing a leg.

my mum died of lung cancer aged 69, she was hopelessly hooked, I cannot remember a time when she wasn't trying to give up. I count myself extremely fortunate that I find it so abhorrent that even the peer pressure and "fashion" of youth was trumped by my sheer disgust of the whole process.

My BIL was found dead on Christmas eve , due to this disease, he was not wearing a sleep mask that was supposed to help him breathe, also had sleep apnea, please dont ignore the symptoms.
