do we have the letters they ( dupes in high places ) wrote AFTER the prosecution and conviction ?

which would presumably be on the lines - a priest knows what truth is - how could you lie to me and also do you realise the trouble you have caused ?

One of his victims later committed suicide. The trouble he may have caused to his pen friends palls into insignificant compared to that.

I supported someone who HADN'T done it -
and you know I think instead if they are found to have done it - your mind does go a-moiling and a-toiling ....
very difficult being in the position of 'I wont support you because the last one lied thro his teeth ....'

when LdJustice Taylor was asked if he regretted jailing the Irish bombers for fifteen years who were later shown to have clearly not done it- said as quick as a flash - No I dont it is not my fault if the Police lie to me

I imagine in contrast they wrote the letters because they thought he hadnt ( and couldnt have )

I moiled and a toiled a bit over the Cardinal who was told - well he shouldnt vote for a pope because he had been you know associated with one of his curates - and basically said why the hell not - he had worked hard to get where he was....

People in ‘high places’ should have the sense to realise that unlike the correspondence of the hoi polloi which, upon receipt, is immediately stamped 'rubbish' and filed directly in the appropriate place, their missives are safely stored for posterity and are, hence, likely to re-emerge at some time in the future to bite them very firmly on the proverbial.
Of course he was in torment. Most people are when they get caught!!

After the police have pursued an enquiry, and the DPP are considering what to do with the evidence they've uncovered, the Great and the good should keep well away lest the common folk should talk of an old boys network.
His initial caution seemed remarkably light.
