You can't have your foreign secretary disagreeing with you on the front bench.
The problem Corbyn has is that he doesn't have enough supporters in parliament. This situation was always bound to arise once he became leader.
It isn't dictatorship: he is simply trying to make the best with what he has got

don't think so baz - when he was elected leader, it was with the biggest winning margin in labour party history, providing a clear mandate to abandon years of blairism and take the party well to the left.
is such a left wing labour party electable? currently no, but who's to say what mess the country will be in by 2020?

I always think a shadow cabinet is completely pointless, no matter who is in government.
Whichever government minister they are shadowing, they just disagree on any policies/announcements made, and claim their side could do better.
We are too far away from a general election for these shadow ministers to matter. They should concentrate on representing their constituents.

"Can anyone explain why Benn was not sacked when Pat McFadden was? "
Hilary Benn is a "big beast" of the cabinet. Sacking him would have been very dangerous. Which is why it always seemed unlikely. The ones who have been sacked seem to be those who have spoken out in general terms on the leadership.
Corbyn really had no choice.
With the news that Cameron has caved in to the Brexit-brigade, arguably even Corbyn is more in control of his lot that Cameron is of his:-)

It's a good thing, for you, that parties are not allowed to just submit their membership lists on election day so, when you arrive at the polling station, your name is already crossed off and your vote for Labour duly recorded.
Electronic voting in the pipeline, remember?
"Are you now, or have you ever been a member of…" etc.

I find it quite funny when the nugget "he was elected with the biggest vote/mandate etc"
He was elected with the biggest mandate because people wanted to stop the blairites not that they wanted his ideas of politics.
Far left, far right, extremes of any denomination are a protest vote not a vote for that way.
He will have had his 15 minutes on the back of "biggest mandate ever" but he won't actually make a difference because his views are extreme and at odds with normal people. We should all remember that even monster murders and such like have a fan base.

"You don't think Benn grovelled to keep his job, ichi? lol. "
He may have done, but I suspect that he did not have to grovel too hard.
As I said before, there are not that many people in the PLP who are qualified to be Foreign Secretary who support Corbyn on foreign policy. One reason for that is that Corbyn's foreign policy views are barmy :-)
And there are still, thank God, some sensible people in the PLP. So if Benn goes it causes huge ructions, not to mention more press speculation.
And what exactly is the prestige is being Shadow forign secretary anyway? It's not a goverment post with a large salary and a car.
No, Jezza's decided to have this "***" in the tent *** out, or at least sideways :-)
Am I allowed to say "***"?
