Can anyone tell me, just what is the thing with designer gear? Clothes, shoes, handbags etc?
I don't get it. Why do people pay over the odds for something just because its got a 'name'?
If I won the lottery I still wouldnt pay more than 10 quid for a pair of jeans.
Can you honestly tell by looking at someone that the suit they are wearing is Armani and not Greenwoods?
Is it a snobbery type of thing?

Yes you can tell the difference between a quality items and a cheaper one

Give your example.

Armani would use a superior material, a better cut, better stitching. Whereas Greenwoods would try to get a many suits out of 1 piece of material thus cutting against the bias, stitching will be large and untidy.
I pay a lot of money for my jeans. They fit better than any others and last for ages.
MrAC has to have designer clothes. I'm really not interested in names, although I do have a thing for Lipsy dresses (they are sooo pretty!) I prefer a bargain, I mainly shop in George and Primark for most of my daily wear.
I have bought designer labels that have fit me like a glove and I love the colour, cut and quality. I have never bought something purely because of the name on the label.
Just to add. Anything I've paid a lot of money for over the years is still in my wardrobe where as all the cheaper stuff ends up in the bin. I don't go for labels though, I buy what looks nice and feels nice.
I think it smacks of snobbery. I myself am not bothered. I can make do with 'cheap' stuff as long it comfy, suits me and fits. But hubby is a real designer snob with his Clarks shoes, Barbour coats, Ben Shermans etc. Pah.
It only matters if you move in circles that find this kind of thing important.

I have a friend, whom I love dearly That invited me to her house to look at her Colefax and Fowler wallpaper. I said it was lovely but couldn't really tell it was Colefax and Fowler. Nice wallpaper though.
More money than sense.
Colefax and Fowler sounds like my IBS medication . ;-)
I'm not into "names", but you often can tell by the quality, definitely with handbags. I buy cheap or expensive depending what it is and what for.

Think that about sums it up for me.
I wouldn't know :-)
It's about affordability really. If you can afford it....buy it.

Tilly, I recently decorated my mums bungalow with paper bought mostly from "The Range'.
The paper cost 9.99 a roll. People that see it think that it must of cost a fortune...
(there again, it might be my decorating skills that does it...)

WHY?
I wouldn't buy "designer"...All my stuff is bespoke.
Why not?
Even the wheels on my Conestoga are bespoked.
