I don't think they were 100% keen on the original Union, if I remember rightly (I am quite open to correction) even though it was their King James acceding to the English throne and it must have seemed as if they had conquered England. As I say, I am quite open to correction on this period, on which I am a bit hazy and influenced by Scottish relatives.
Sounds like a Win-Win to me.
It's strange that the Scots are eager to remain in the absolutely non-democratic EU but are eager (so we're led to believe) to quit the reasonably democratic UK. I know they moan that their needs and requirements are not usually met by a UK government (a feature that could, of course be applied to any area where the majority of the population votes for a party other than the one forming the government). But this is precisely what happens to the UK in the EU. I have posted a number of times the figures demonstrating that the UK is constantly outvoted in the EU Parliament - for all that institution is worth. So what makes the Scots think their interests will be better served by the EU (if and when they are eventually allowed to join as an independent nation)?
Anyway, I'm not all that fussed. As I said a Win-Win situation as far as I'm concerned.
