Several famous people now dead have openly admitted committing acts against boys and young men which at the time were illegal and some still are. If such an accusation was made against one of these men, would the police investigage it or just presume it to be true? It would be easy for a reader of a certain autobiography to have enough details for the claim to be believable.

By the way, brother had a small op last week, to "fill-in" the dent in the side of his head after the injury. They took fat tissue from his stomach.

I offered my belly, as it is considerably larger and needs reducing anyway, but no, it had to be his apparently !

Yes, true, but although i thought it was "all good stuff" at the time, I struggle to recall much of the "interesting" details. It seemed worth the efforts at the time, but little has been implanted in my mind. Was it worth it? Yes......I suppose so.

If anybody dared suggest that some of these claimants were motivated by money, they were castigated and dismissed by the great and the good of AB.
I hope some eyes were opened by the Lotto debacle of recent days. The fact that hundreds of people claimed that £33 million proves that a)There are a lot of amoral greedy people out there.
b) There are a lot of amoral thick people out there too.

There is a whole world of difference between making a false claim in the Lottery to making a false claim of sexual abuse.
The investigation in to sexual abuse is invasive and traumatic for the victim - many would give up after the first interview.

A complete waste of time and resources. Forty years after the alleged event when the alleged perpetrator is dead is too late to complain.

HC, how much of an 'invasive, traumatic' investigation do you think the BBC conducted into the 120 cases they've paid out over Jimmy Savile?
Leigh Day and Gordon Slater made it clear in their adverts for 'victims' that they would get quick pay outs. (with minimal enquiry)
I'm afraid where money is concerned, some people will stoop to any depths.
All I'm saying is that while there will be genuine victims, I wouldn't take every claim at face value.
And don't even get me started on Repressed Memory Therapy or whatever that quackery is called.

Utter tripe. Where there's a profit to be made, people will say and do almost anything. It's not as if false claimants of sexual abuse are going to be subject to a physical examination after this much time has passed.
It's a scam like any other.
Cash for learning and repeating a fabricated story with the prospect of a payday at the end of it beats working for a living, be it Lotto or manipulation of expired celebrities.

douglas, I'm not referring to physical examinations. The trawling through your private life going back years, the repeated questions, the loss of trust and respect if you're not believed, the hours and hours of police interviews.

In the case in my post the man has been identified. He claims that because of the abuse he had homosexual relationships even though he is heterosexual and is now married to a woman. Imagine how his parents are feeling, if they are still alive, knowing they did not protect their son from abuse nor could he confide in them after the event. That cannot be an easy thing to do.
