I think this is a good result.

When I heard that he wanted to return to the ring, I thought it sounded like a terrible idea.

Your feelings?

I agree.
His glory days are behind him and I feel that if he were able to get back into the ring he'll add nothing to, and probably lose from, his reputation.

I wish him all the best...away from the ring.
Past his sell by date. Any more strikes to the head and we have got an Ali again. :-(
Christ almighty, no!

There is not that many good heavyweights about at the moment but absolutely not, stick to pantomime Frank!!
I think it's for the best that he's been denied a licence to fight. I don't know how old he is now, but his health hasn't been great since he retired. Fighting again couldn't lead to anything good, now. He was great in his day.
54....what's he thinking? I wouldn't issue a license because of his age alone.
An old man (for that sport) getting pummeled around the ring til unconsciousness and gravity takes over.
Might as well reintroduce bear baiting and bull fighting if we like blood sport so much!!
Question Author
When he was asked why he wanted to do this (in a television interview), he said, that he had "no choice".

He didn't clarify what that meant. I assumed he was saying that he needed the money.

...but that's just conjecture on my part.
Wasn't he sectioned a while ago?
Err definitely No. He's not Stallone and Rocky 25 can't happen in real life.
Well, the oldest title winner in any class was 48 so I wouldn't have fancied his chances of success...
The trouble with Frank is that he never knew when he was beat, he has never been knocked out his defeats came by way of TKO's. He would again ship far too much punishment before the ref would need to stop it. That said I would bet he could still knock out most of the also rans!
I suspect that Frank is being pushed by 'advisers' who can
sense a nice pay day at the poor old chap's expense.

Don't do it Frank.
It would be a bad move for him , the reasons he gives re his medication making him hyperactive are not good ones.

Frank would be better guided into putting his energies into something connected with boxing but not competing.
Manic Depression is complex but I know that when a person is manic/high they have many ideas and plans running around their head. Very few (if any) of those ideas are 'good' ideas.

This is not a good idea.

I haven't got time to read all the other posts here but thank goodness he is not getting his licence back !
this proves beyond all doubt hes lost the plot.....
If you mean he's ill - yes he is, that's why he's on medication.
Poor lad, I'm glad they've protected him from his folly.
Being mentally ill is hard.

It must be hell being mentally ill in public.

I wish him well and hope that he picks friends who will not take advantage of the guy.
retrocop @ 1441; Muhammed Ali suffers from Parkinsons and, as far as i recall, there has never been any concrete proof that boxing contributed to it.
Other than that, i agree with everything that has been said on this thread. It would be sheer lunacy for the amiable Bruno to step into the ring again.
