///I was worried that someone I was responsible for was going to get run over and killed.///
Seems like a reasonable concern and a viable reason to obstruct the road.
I could understand the outcry if he had driven at the bikers and rammed them, but he didn't, he partially blocked the road, and due to inexperience one of the idiots lost control of his most likely untaxed and uninsured bike, tough!
Suppose the 'criminals' car had swerved to avoid the police car and killed some pedestrians walking past! Would your answer still be the same?
The police have very strict rules about how a car chase has to be handled to ensure it is as safe as possible, this officer did not follow them.
Good job UK police are not armed or you would be telling us they should just have shot them!

Usual load of right-on policiing from our Uni Cops.
If I was a Police officer or a squaddie I'd seriously consider getting out.
We can see from some posters on here that they would love to prosecute you above the real criminal who they would probably love to shower in compensation etc.
What a country we live in.

OK ,sorry, it was a motor bike. Would still have been capable of killing or seriously injuring a few pedestrians if the rider had swerved into them to avoid the police car.
Only police officers who are trained as advanced drivers can chase other vehicles, the correct procedure would have been for this 'special' to follow the bike at a safe distance and call for back up to do the actual 'stop'.

The point is he broke police rules ( as it says in the link)by using the patrol car as a barrier, that was a dangerous action that could have caused injury to anyone passing by. I have a lot of sympathy with him but you can't allow police to break their own rules and get away with it. Just stop for a moment and think what would happen if police were allowed to break their rules at will!
